I'm going on vacation in december and leaving my car in a garage for about a month. Do i have to do anything special? Disconnect battery? or anything like that? I just don't want to get back to a dead battery... Once i get back, a good warm up and break in would be in order...

 

If it were mine, I'd disconnect the battery, change the engine oil, and cover it.
Don't forget the drop the driver's side window slightly so that you can re-enter easily with the battery disconnected. A quarter inch is sufficient.

A month! I wouldn't bother doing anything. I've been gone longer than that with no problem and in weather where ambient temp was -30F.

 

Ditto........its a car dude leave it alone it won't melt and your battery will be just fine...beats adjusting the clock and everything else when you disconnect the battery

 

cool thanks for the responses... I hate to leave it for a month but I gotta go on vacation hehe Its gonna be fairly new so yea the battery thing probably won't matter cuz i'm sure cars sit on the lot longer than that without moving. I may just do it to be safe though lol

and yea gonna get snows as soon as the car is in my hands... temps are getting pretty low now

 

I've read that you should fill up the gas tank before you store it too.

Why would you want to change the oil before you store it? That is a waste!

If you're planning to disconnect the battery, open the window a crack so that you don't damage the seal the next time you
open the door.

For only a month, I would just pump up the tires to
40psi and just leave it be. When you get back, lower the
psi to 35psi each and you're set.

In chicago, I let my weekend cars hybernate during the
winter. All I do is fill up gas tank, inflate tire to 40psi, put a
trickle charger on the car every 2 weeks (2amps) and would
either let it float for the duration, or just unplug and re-charge.

Modern cars are really easy to take care if its only up to
about 3-4months. If longer, you'll want to use synthetic motor
oil.

I meant that if it's anywhere near due to be changed -- to do it b4 storing rather than leave it with stale oil in it.

.. and yes I agree that filling the gas tank will reduce risk of condesation in the tank.
