stock vs stock, our cars are faster. raced many of them same result. there was one w/ simple mods, like, intake, exhaust, CF hood, rims, sport ECU... we were dead even until end of 3rd gear (i have 5AT)... i started to pull away after that...

Wait im pretty confused, was this a new S4 or older TT S4? Because the older S4 will beat a Auto G35, and it almost beats a G35 coupe 6spd from a dead stop, its a good run. Like i said, once you put a "sport ecu" in or a chip, it will MURDER any g35 coupe or sedan, 6spd or auto and with every bolt on there is, i guarentee it so with intake, exhaust and chip theres no comparo, hard to believe. You sure it wasnt an A4 1.8t debadged? With a chip they are about even with a stock auto G, results froma chip are almost exactly the same, but they are slower to begin with so it bumps them up from like 7.8 0-60? To about 6.2 at least!

You can put your speculation to sleep....
I personally had an encounter last spring with a B5 S4 on the highway. We hit it at about 70mph (I dropped to 3rd) and I went all the way to 110mpg (3/4 of 5th gear in) or so. He was long gone by that point - something like 5 car lengths.

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)
Having owned a 2000 S4 (from virgin stock all the way to full turbo replacement and trimmings) and driven G35c 6MT many times, I would submit that from a stop the S4 is definitely quicker. Stock for stock, probably through about 100 or so. The G is a little more slick, so I think it'll start to pull after that, and it'd definitely murder a stock S4 in the turns, but from a dig the S4 definitely has it.
It's sort of a moot point, but as so many here have said, even with just an ECU chip I think the S4 would give a S/C G a run for it's money. Hp/weight ratios on the S4 don't translate to performance the way they do on most cars, sort of like BMWs. Just look at the facts: weight of S4 is around 3700 lbs, hp 255, 245 ft-lbs torque, yet proven performance is always between 13.9-14.3 with a decent driver. From many of the posts I've seen on this forum, the G looks like this: 3450 lbs, 280 hp, 270 ft-lbs, between 14.0-14.6 1/4 mi for decent driver. Everything stat there indicates the G should easily take the S4 with NO problem, but the times are very similar, even if you would debate the slight edge I've given the S4.
Make no mistake, the S4 is unreliable, but it's one hell of a car, and it's fast as stink and can launch like crazy from a stop. Oh, and you won't actually find too many stock ones either, so just beware racing them.
2000 Audi S4 - 400hp/450ft-lbs (sold 8-14-04)
1991 Toyota MR2 - 130hp/140ft-lbs...just as fun

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)
If it would have been 1.8 I would have ripped him a 2nd a$$hole....
I wouldn't even need to downshift twice against a 1.8 - I just stomp the gas at 6th and cook his a$$. One of my colleague has a 1.8 and wanted to have a run with me just for the fun of (knowing he's about to die....). It was from a dead stop and by the end of 1st gear, I already had a 1 car length on him. I'm not saying the S4 is slow, but It's definitely something that we can handle.

Re: G35 v. S4 (twin-turbo V6 model)
I think this is all very interesting. People could be running into a lot of chipped S4s. Mine were both entirely stock 2001 bi-turbo V-6s, one was stick, other was tiptronic. I was never impressed with the performance of either car. I completely disagree that they're fast from a dead stop. I highly doubt that either of my old Ss could keep up with the G35 0-60. I actually ran into a new V-8 S4 when I still had my tiptronic TT S4. The difference in power is substantial, the bi-turbo is no match for the new S4. But the G seems like a completely different car than the old S4, much more of a sports car, and much quicker I think.
