I recently removed the coil packs on my 04 coupe and there is oil in my my #6 cylinder, I will be calling to schedule an appointment first thing Monday. while doing this I noticed my plugs are shot, the dumb *** that had the car before me must have never changed them, what plugs should I buy to replace them? Or does the dealership replace my plugs while doing my warranty work?

I don't think they will replace the plugs. The OEM plugs are NGK Iridium. You can check the DIY on changing the sparkplugs to get the exact model.
What do you mean the plugs are shot? They may look dirty as hell but they should still be firing.

Its not like it was in the 1970's. You don't have to change plugs with every oil change anymore. I think the maintenance interval is something like 100k miles isn't it? I've heard some folks say that unless a plug is physically damaged it doesn't need replacing at all.
I've also heard that most of the 'special' features you pay for on high end plugs are pure hype. When its time I'll probably use OEM or OEM equivalent but I'm not paying more than that. I suspect the NGK Iridiums are overpriced as it is.

If they are truly the OEM plugs still in there and you have 75K+ miles on the car, then I think it would be worth changing them while they are doing the work.Originally Posted by ShaneH85

For $8.48 ea or $50 for the set, why not? You're going to need to do it at some point anyway and I bet the car will run better with a fresh set of iridiums in there.

I actually think your supposed to change them at 60k, but with these carsand not knowing the previous owners driving habits ill change them anyways. But when I pulled them they looked bad. As far as just going with oem plugs I didn't ask because I was against them I asked bc im a new owner and sometimes other people have found something better. Like to me on my built mustang I use$ 1.98 autolites, best damn firing plug out there imoOriginally Posted by N80

spark plugs should be changed every 105k. use ngk plugs only. change them out if you want.....might as well since they will be doing the valve covers....they shouldnt really charge you any extra to do it.

You're right, they should be changed at 60K and I did on mine at 60K with the Iridium IX. They still looked OK, that's why I think they could go at least 75K. But again, if they are already in there doing the labor, should be nothing to swap out with fresh plugs. Even if you do yourself, its about an hour job at most. If I remember right, the passenger side middle plug was a bit difficult to get the coil and plug tube off the plug, but with a little maneuvering, its all good.Originally Posted by ShaneH85

Yea your right that one was a pain in the* **. I think im just going to take my new plugs and let them install them since they will be working in there anyways. I just put everything back and left the oil in #6, no point in me cleaning it out since its under warranty. Plus its not my ds so im sure it want hurt it.

infiniti suggests plugs at 105k for the newer cars. if you had an older g20, qx4, i30, etc.....the interval is 60k.
