Can't fill up with gas sometimes?!

Occasionally when I'm putting gas in my car, it seems to be telling the nozzle that the gas tank is full, but I know its not.. and when I check the gas level when I turn the car on, it proves its not full.. any ideas on whats causes this?

And occasionally my service engine soon light comes on but goes off a day or two later? Connected i'm assuming...?

Thanks guys.

Your car sounds like it's anorexic.

There's a recall on this issue if you still have a warranty and then sometimes it's the fault of the nozzle at the gas station. When that happens just keep mess'in with it until it's to the top of the filler. Heat and expansion make it difficult to fill the tank too but since we're into cold/winter that shouldn't be a factor.

Check the fuel tank vent it could be plugged. My company truck does the same thing when it is lower than a quarter tank. I found out that the vent was stopped up cuz we ride on alot of dirt and mud roads. I doubt that yours is doing it because of mud. Buy could be stopped up from road grime. Just an idea.

Thanks guys.. talked to the dealership, they said its a sensor dealing with a carbon filter or something like that..Its not too much for the new sensor, around 100.. but its a known issue like Gary said!

Dealership fixed mine under warranty 3 months ago. For something like this, I wouldn't pay for it. It should be replaced due to Manufacturer defect.

The cause of this isn't wear and tear but a defect in the "fill limit vent valve cover".

Is it $100 with part + labor?

That happens to mine sometimes, like once every few months. Just pull the pumps nozzle halfway out and slowly fill up your tank, that's always worked for me...

Hey I have an 03 G Coupe 6MT... and the 100$ or just under was for the sensor alone i believe.. not sure tho. I dont think I'll be replacing it unless it gets worse.. I'm not sure about the labor, but it seems like it would be a time consuming issue..

Yeah I have the exact same issue I think the shape of the gas tank is flawed because I fill it to 35 litres, and it shuts of as if it's full. I shake the car and it seems to even out the air in the tank then you can keep filling, I didn't know it was a recall though, good to know gonna have Infiniti fix it.

I had the problem of my tank only filling up three-quarters of the way each time I got gas. So I took it to the dealership who fixed it under warranty. Drove for months without any issues. End of story, right? WRONG! Now it's happening again. It's not as bad as before, but I can only fill up about seven-eighths of my tank. I've tried repositioning the nozzle, but it mades no difference. And, of course car is now out of warranty.

Since the problem originally happened under warranty, so you think the dealership will cover their original repair? Or am I screwed?

Thanks,
Michael

I'm having the same problems. I have to play with it for a bit before it actually starts filling up.

I'm eventually going to take it down to the dealership to get it fixed... hopefully once and for all, though highly doubtful.
