Unhappy G35 Coupe Upper Oil Pan Issue

I am in the Sacramento Area and I went into Sacramento Infiniti to get the Side Air Bag Recall Taken care of, while they were there they did one of those multi point inspections and said that my Upper Oil Pan is leaking pretty bad, I have a 2003 G35 Coupe with 137,000 miles is this normal or should I look into this more, they said it will cost about 1,028 dollars and that the parts were 128.80 dollars. I've never heard a part like that going bad. I was also wondering if it really is bad is there a better place to take in in the Sac area other than the stealer-ship and could i possibly do an oil pan upgrade, or is the upgrade mainly aimed at the lower oil pan.
Thanks,

Dave

I have never heard of an upper oil pan. Not saying that is not whats really leaking, but I have never heard on one... Are you leaving oil spots where you park? Is your car losing oil? Do you check your oil dip stick from time to time??? If your lot leaving spot, and not losing oil then I would not think you have an oil leak. Especially not a bad one.

When Infiniti approaches you with a claim like this it's a good idea to say, "Show me where the leak is!" I've never heard of an upper oil pan either but I've never torn down this engine so I'm not an expert. If your G35 is running fine without any drips in your garage/driveway....shine it!

It's a PITA to pull the upper oil pan but that's an excessive amount of labor being charged. I'd suggest going to a Nissan dealer to get another opinion.

yeah they showed my where there was some older oil that had dripped down and it did look like it was seeping out but 6 to 8 hours worth of labor does seem like a lot of labor but i did see the leak there and they said that my rear subframe bushing has a leak and they showed that to me also but they said there is no way to just replace the bushing so they have to replace the whole piece, i don't think im gonna buy that one though. I'm gonna say if a mechanic can repair the upper oil pain with the rtv on the side i'm in college and can not afford 1,000 just for some silicone repair. or maybe i will try some stop leak. Sacramento Infiniti charges 130.00 per hour for labor. I will try the nissan dealership to see how much they might possibly charge since the pan is probably the same on the 350z. Thanks everyone on the forum

Where exactely is it? I was just going thru the 2003 Service Manual and can't figure out where it might be. The manual shows the traditional oil pan and then on top of that a baffle and then the block. I'm really interested in where it's located. Thanks!!

When was the last time you replaced your PCV valve? Do you have OC?
