New to forum, Getting a G35 tommrow. Need advice
Hey im kris. Ive been looking in my area (ct) for a g35 for a while now. I finally found one thats exactly what i want. I cant afford new, So for 13,000 i found a 2004 G35 Coupe, Black on black, Sport pkg, 6spd manual. 75k for 12,500. But its all the way down in VA!! a 7 HR drive each way.. So i bugged a friend to go and everything is ... well partly planned, so sence im new to how g35's are,,, what do i look for in these?
Welcome man. I was in the same boat as you all year. That sounds like a great deal. To give you some perspective I just last week bought my 03 black on black coupe, 6MT w/ 84K for $12k. Since yours has less miles and is a year newer the price difference sounds plenty fair.
The asking price is 13K and he is willing to take 12.5K, is that what you meant?
If I were you I would check:
-Carfax
-window motors (these die all the time)
-radio/climate controls (anything else electrical)
-these cars have soft paint so check for scratches/lots of rock chips in paint
-tires wear quick
-clutch engagement point to see how long until it needs replacing and/or tranny grinds
-maintenance records to see what has been done, fluids, belts, the usual
I drove 4.5 hours each way to pick mine up and it wasn't too bad. It's also always a good idea to have a mechanic check it out. I paid Goodyear to do a pre-purchase inspection on my G. They put it on a lift and went over the entire car, head to toe for me. Telling me recommendations, etc.
Good luck and post pics!

hey thanks! funny thing, me and my dad were talking, and almost 30 years ago, he was my age, and excited about buying a datsun (240 i think) and here 30 years later, im doing the exact same thing, almost the same car, Ive had Camaros most my life, so this is my 1st proper sportscar (front engine 6spd manual-rear wheel, 2 door. )
btw, im thinking for 12,500 bucks.. its a killer deal, so im going to take it .. as long as it isnt wrecked

Just take your time and check things out. Too bad you couldnt pull the #3 or #6 spark plugs out to check for oil.
Last time I checked Camaros are front engine, rear wheel drive...lol.

Also check what kind of tires they have on it. Since they're in Virginia they might have summer tires on it. Summer tires+NorthEastern winters= Scary! I live in NY and if there was more than an inch of snow my car was'nt going anywhere. You could always invest in a cheapish winter setup though.
Check fitment gaps on the bumpers and fenders, if anything is off... Chances there's an accident. I was checking a few and when I looked under the car, I noticed a brand new bumper bar. That car also had different shades of colour and that's another sign the car was accidented/painted. So I left, not going to buy that.
Check oil levels too. You'll see how the car drives and that will help you decide.

I would dig up all the history on the car I could find before buying it. That's what I did with mine when I bought it, and found that it had the oil consumption problem...and that the owner had the long block replaced twice until he was satisfied with the problem being gone. If the owner had the vehicle serviced at Infiniti dealerships, you can actually call up Infiniti and have them fax you all the service records on the car...at least they did for me, and it literally documented every oil change and every service, which made me feel much more comfortable buying the car. Worth a shot!

I called Infiniti too, I even found out which dealership the car was bought from and I went there to check the service records. This was for the current G I have and all was good!
