Buying a G and I need advise!

My gf is buying a G which I know a decent amount about, but I would like more particulars. I own a 350z myself so my knowledge base is fairly broad on both cars, for ex I know you should stay away from Z's made in 06-07 (rev engines), and a few of the 03-04 have oil consumption problems. This is the type of info I am looking for; the specifics that only G owners know. I appreciate any help/advise you can give me.

Jenkins, you didn't give us enough information, what year is she looking for? Does she want a 6MT or a 5AT? The REVUP motors aren't a problem if they've already been replaced which are only found in '06 & '07 MT G35s. As you're aware of the AT don't have the REVUP motors no matter what year you're looking at. Need more info....

The year is completely optional, I just want to know which years I should steer clear of given the option. I don't want her to have a revup though so the 06-07 are out. Would an 05 be the way to go to avoid rev and oil consumption problems? I know on the Z though this year doesn't have the updated transmission. She wants a mt. I also am a little confused on trim levels. From what I read the g only has two; base and touring??? Is this correct, and what are the differences in them? I can't find a good site with the info. All I can tell is the touring/sport had brembos and a navi.

edit: Which year came out with the bi-xenon headlights for the G?

Brembos only came on 03-04 6MT's. The navi and sunroof were options. There is a base model and a model with a premium package. Bose stereo, etc. Then the aero package was available which had a spoiler, splash guards, etc. 05 is a good choice, it has the newer 19" rays and updated interior that most prefer. 06+ had projectors which are far superior. However, you can swap these onto any year coupe.

When buying one common problems are; window motors, cd player, 6MT grinds and oil consumption.

Xenons are standard across all years, but '03-'05 got reflectors and '06+ got projectors. As WataG said, the headlights are pure plug-and-play so if you purchase a coupe with reflectors you will be able to swap in projectors.

Don't think you can go wrong with 03, 04, or 05.

May want to sit in an 03/04 and see if she can get comfortable as the 05 I think had available telescoping steering wheel (which I'm hoping to maybe retrofit into mine). To me, the interior change to 05 isn't worth missing out on an awesome 03/04 if you find one.

05-07 has better interior. dont worry about up-rev, dont but one that has been modded (chance of something wrong) .

i would get an 05 or above, in 06 they have projecters (which u want) which have been mentioned and have a smartkey and a button on the trunk to open it and some have sport bumpers and tailights are a bit different. but ya, you should get one for yourself too :P

I am a very proud owner of a Z, but thank you anyway. I do love the G also, but my first pick has always been the Z. I have had it over a year now, and don't see myself owning anything else for quite a while. At least till some kids come into the picture.

I have heard so many horror stories from people having to replace the uprev (z and g alike) that it makes me very wary. I also have no intention of leaving it bone stock. Nothing big since it's hers, but a cold air and a nice sounding exhaust I see in the future.

I do want the projectors though....and I know how much they cost separate since I have been trying to get some for a while for my 03 z lol.

I just know her, and if she did get an uprev that burned some oil she wouldn't check it often enough.

I guess you might have to check it for her. I'm sure you could come up with a creative "payment" plan

IMO this issue is overrated. Go on G35NYC and have one of the dealer reps check the VIN for you to see if the motor in this car was affected.
