Closckspring broken?

I took my steering apart and turned the wheel a couple of times not thinking so now im trying to figure out if i broke my clockspring. The horn and steering wheel controls still work so does that mean it is not broken? If so how do i find out where the center is of the clockspring? Also is there a way to look at the clockspring to see if it is broken? Thanks in advance.

your steering wheel controls dont go through the clock spring the air bag does. if you break it then either the airbag will deploy in your face or the airbag light will come on the dash. to tell where center is turn it all the way to the left but when you reach the end dont force it at all, the count the turns till it hits the right side. whatever you count for turns divide it in half and turn it back to the left that amount.

The battery was not attached when i possibly broke it. Also the airbag light is not on. So im guessing i didnt break it? If i take the clockspring off does it automatically center itself?

sure doesn't lol. count the turns like i said without forcing it. its the only way to be sure if you just guess and put ur wheel back on then when you turn hard it can force it and break it

thats what the clock spring does... so that the cables dont get twisted as you turn the wheel.

yep thats what it does. however, it only is able to turn about 5 times then it will tear the fragile wires inside. that is why he needs to center it.
