Curious about cluster/clock conversion for 04 6MT

Hi guys, this is my first thread here on G35driver. I've been lurking for a bit but finally decided to join, and I'd like to ask question that's been bugging me for a bit. A guy on here named WhiteonWheat started a thread with the intention of attempting to convert the 03-04 series cluster and analog clock over to the 06+. Long story short, a couple people accomplished it but it was apparently a big pain and hassle to do.

Has anyone here recently (or ever) attempted and completed the conversions? How does it look? I'm wanting to try it very soon, but I've got almost no experience with electrical. As much as I love my G, The interior basics like these components could use a refresh, and I love the way the new ones look on the 06+. Anyways, thanks for any help

i think there is 2 ways of doing it. first and most likely would be to get an 06 cluster with the plug and sit down with the wiring diagram from the 03 and from the 06 and cut all the wires and re-solder the new plug on. i looked this up before and was thinking of it there are extra wires the 06 has features the 03 doesnt liek the shift light but i dont remember what the extra wires were. if this fails you have to cut the plug back off and re-solder back on your old one lol. the second way of doing it would be to take both of them apart and see about using the 03 cluster and remover the face and put on the 06 face and dials. this one sounds easier but until you take them apart you won't know if the 06 has everything like the warning lights and signals and all that close enough to mount up. in my experience taking apart speedos and tachs sucks and theres alot of springs and little ieces in there that if they come out you may not ever get them back together again unless you have a higher than average mechanical aptitude. i have access to the wiring diagrams if you need them hit me up, i have been bored lately maybe ill start looking into this again as well.

i read through that article and the guy in it cuts the plug and wires on the newer one but he also takes the new guts and puts them into the old casing so maybe the 06 gauge case doesnt fit?

Apparently it mounts a little differently than the 04 gauge, but it fits perfectly into the old space. I could be wrong though..

i believe the gauge cluster mounts to the big plastic bezel thing then that bolts to the steering column. i bet that if you too the bezel from the 06 as well it would bold to the column the same and you could skip all that cutting and fitting part

I have an 06 Coupe and it's Analog.. I really hate it because you have to look at it longer to figure out the time rather then just glancing less then a second to see.. I think it's bad for driving
