Recently I noticed that it seems that my engine is running at higher RPMs then in the past. Right now its at 2700rpm @ 70mph....3000rpm @ 77mph. It idles around 700rpm. Is this what your engine is running at?

i know on my previous cars, i can adjust the throttle line thingy from under the hood to control the rpm... just loosen it

 

ok but what gear are u guys in when doin' 80 5th or 6th?

 

My '05 6MT coupe is at about 3100-3200rpm in 6th gear at 80mph.

Would elevation be the problem?

 

Depends whether your MT or auto as the ratios are completely different.

 

I really never pay attention to the RPM unless i am in trickmatic

 

75 mph = 2800 rpm with 285/30's in the rear on my 6mt in 6th.

 

3000rpm on the dot for 80 mph, and 5 mph drop per 200 rpm. Ex. 2800 for 75, 2600 for 70. Wish it was closer to 2000 for 80 and save some highway gas. Stock tire size.

 

I miss that about my LS1 Camaro... 6th gear at 80mph was about 1800rpms. 6th gear at 100mph was only about 2400rpms lol. I barely even used 5th or 6th around town, the car would just stall from being so low in the rpms.

 

I have a stock 07 g35 and at 45 mph I am running 2000 rpm, but I don't know if this car has a lock up torque converter, my dash just says D. This is the first G35 I have owned. Please help, this just seems high to me compared to the previous cars.

 

There is no sensor, relay or adjustment to that would allow your car to change rpm at a given speed. If your car is an auto, then possibly your trans is not shifting into 5th, but I doubt it. Run your car in manual mode and make sure it shifts into 5th.
