Do you mean a tune or to reset the ecu?

If you meant a tune for intake and exhaust, then no.

If you meant ecu reset, then go for it.

 

No point resetting the ECU as it will just revert, the ECU runs a very tight idle and closed loop feedback, adding exhaust and intake mods will only benefit if a proper remap is done.

Right, but it wouldnt hurt is what I'm saying. You'll notice an improvement from the get-go but it will go back to the adapted driving style.

 

I believe it's recommended to remove the negative side of the battery while installing intakes so it wouldn't hurt going from a OE exhaust to HKS. Just don't leave it off for any length of time, an hour of two is alright....overnight will result is some unwanted issues.

Why? the only unwanted issue your likely to see is having to reset the clock

 

I dont understand the reason why someone would have to unhook the battery if you change out the intake or exhaust. Can someone school me on this.........

 

Removing the battery cable BEFORE you do some mods puts the ECU asleep. After you're done, reconnect the cable and when the engine is started it will 'learn' the new parameters right away.

 

Exactly....^....If you leave it off too long it will lose things like idle ability and you'll need to reset that which isn't difficult. Point being made, there's no reason to leave it disconnected for any great length of time....

I had my battery disconnected last time after installing my ztube. Don't really think that affected my idle time at all. It's running at 700 right now. I recommend reseting it after any mod install though. btw how are you liking the HKS exhaust and injen intake?

 

Thai, it's not the battery disconnect that effects your idle it's how long you do so. If it's disconnected while installing intakes, spacers or exhaust systems it won't have an effect....leaving it 8 to 10 hours will! (mine did)

I'm with Gary C on this one there is no point in letting ur ECU sleep for more then 20 mins I think it will do more harm then good. I disconnected mine after I installed a ztube and a filter. I disconnected it for about 15 mins maybe a little less and it worked fine.

 

I wouldn't see why you would need to leave the battery disconnected overnight... lol. Per install instructions they recommend to disconnect the battery. But even with the ecu like some have said here and my personal experience, it'll relearn itself in a matter of driving time.
