Re: Which Grade of Gas? - G35 Coupe 6spd
urbanT, you're welcome for my reply to your thread but you didn't give me any credit like you did to omahaG and g4ian. is that because I said to do a search for this topic?
the same insults and credible information is in them. in 2 weeks, there will be another new topic from a newb that thinks he is the first to ever think of putting lower octane gas in his g.

Alright,
Enough of this sh#%. I can't believe the audacity of people to assume someone's financial situation based upon them not wanting to put premium gas in the car.

Very well said. Some bullshit elitist we have here. That's like saying if you can't afford a real luxury coupe (Aston Martin) you shouldn't be a poseur and buy an entry level one.

Well the difference really is like $1 or $2 per tank. You'd have to be REEAAAALLLL cheap not to give your Coupe premium gas. Particularly because this is an enthusiast web site/forum and you're here because you're an enthusiast of your car.
And to restate my question, I didn't mean performance. Lower octane hurting performance was established, I used the wrong word, my bad. My question was, how do we know that when somebody is using lower octane fuel it's not hurting the engine? The only things I see are "PREMIUM FUEL RECOMMENDED"....I don't see anything along the lines of "FEEL FREE TO USE LESSER GAS"

I agree.... the manual says use at least 91 octane gas, and if not available, you can use 87 octane. BUT if using 87 octane it says use only a partial tank and it wants you to fill up with 91 as soon as possible and avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration when using the 87.

How much money would you save by putting in regular gas?
Around my area, Premium (only 91 in CA) is about 20c higher than reg. If you fill up once a week, let's say 15 gal, that's (15 gal)(0.20 cents)(52 weeks) = $156/year extra.

gspotter, I would but NJ requires (by law) to have full service gas stations only. Hehehe, sometimes it's good to live in a conservative state. =)
