Boosting my G, is a clutch upgrade needed ASAP?

I'm going to be going FI soon, and I know that I will want to upgrade my clutch/flywheel, but is it something that I need to do right away or could I wait a bit? Clutch so far hasn't seem to have any issues at all, I was just hoping to hold off on the 1K needed for the clutch for a bit.. suggestions?

You can hold off. It's really up in the air for how long the stock clutch will last with FI. Depending on how you drive the car especially. Clutch could last 10 seconds or a year. It's up to you

^ Holding off wont hurt. Get the essentials then upgrade weak parts.

That's a good point. But I work away from home, in the oil patch.. So I go a month or two without driving at a time, so if I burn it out, it's not like I'm screwed... But thanks for all the info guys, greatly appreciated..

I replaced mine when I went FI, so my story is to get it when you have it all torn apart. But just know that the stock clutch wont hold up long to the added torque. Good Luck!

My stock clutch gave out after I went FI, spent more money on install, I should have done it all-together. Do it all together dude.

What about flywheel? Can you just do clutch and not flywheel? Not a fan of chatter .... And it will only be 8psi ish and 350-400rwhp

if you care more about the performance, you will get over the chatter fast. if you are going FI apparently you care about performance. if you replace the clutch it is reccomended that you replace the flywheel. it is not possible to resurface the stock flywheel because it is a "dual mass" flywheel, so dont let somebody rip you off by saying that they resurfaced the stock flywheel and installed a new clutch because if they actually do, chances are they will mess the flywheel up badly.

Thanks for the reply. When looking at how far have you pushed your G on stock internals, only half did clutch and fly wheel. I will do clutch but how do i know if i need to do flywheel, i dont go around and do burn outs and dropping clutch race starts etc.. I would like to know approx under what conditions you HAVE to replace the flywheel. Thanks guys

it will all come down to the balance of the flywheel, and how much wear it has… what determines what will require you to replace anything is your driving style, and how many ft/lbs of torque you will be putting to the ground. the wear on the clutch may not all be from you because we all know that you are the most perfect little driver but you must also consider how the car was driven by previous owners. that can seriously effect the lifespan of your clutch and flywheel. i will say right now that if you are dead set on going FI or just want to get rid of the late engaging mushy clutch with a flywheel that hangs in the revs lile our oem set up. it is well worth doing. im planning on going with a vortech supercharger set up, but intil i get rid of my wheel hop issues, i dont want to take that step, because i do autocross and occasionally go to the strip on the weekends.
