Finally...1/4 mile times
Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
hello!? let more air out of the back tires. You won't have to abuse the clutch so badly.
In the laser, the two times we had it to the drag strip, with around 30 psi it would only run 12.30s - 12.40s because it wouldn't get out of the hole due to wheel spin. The 60ft times were like 2.1 - 2.2. I dropped the pressure to about 26 the first time we were there and ran an 11.90 if I remember right. The second time we had it to the track, I started at 26 psi and worked down from there. At 22psi I ran a best ever of 11.51 at 118.? mph. This was still with some wheel spin and a 60ft time of 1.6. I dropped the tires to 20psi and when I launched, I broke the output shaft on the transfer case. I got no wheel spin - for a second - then CLUNK. Anyway I spun the front tires through most of third gear trying to feather the gas the whole time - still ran a 12.78
I love that car.
Anyway, let the air out of the rear and rev it up and drop the hammer - it will go.

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
another thing, your trap speeds seem pretty slow... i'm not sure what most G's trap, but i know Z's usually trap between 100-103 mph... the G shouldn't be that far behind
starting off in 2nd gear has got to be one of the dumbest things i've heard... maybe the guy was just messing around with you
p.s. i don't want to sound like an ***, but there is absolutley no way you chirped 4th gear in that car... it doesn't matter if you shift faster from 3rd to 4th then anyone in the history of the g35coupe... chirping at speeds that high recquires a sh!tload of power!

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
The only idea I can to think of as to why you may have been chirping 4th is because one side had way more traction then the other and causes one side to slip momentarily resulting in the chirp. Makes sense considering we have viscous style LSD.
Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
That may be true....again, it surprized me. I thought it was a fluke the first run, but for it to happen the entire runs?
Orhanz33 - I know it is hard to believe, that is why I post about it. I'm not offended. I have nothing to prove. I (like others here) have always been able to bark 3rd. That is nothing special. All I can say is YES I DID chirp 4th. I don't know how to prove this...Nor do I know if this will ever happen again??...

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
As dumb as it sounds, I've chirped the 3rd to 4th shift in my G (on the drag strip) as well. Call all of the BS you want, but it's true. I've only trapped 98.6 and ran 14.6 (my best time in really hot/humid, Florida summer weather). I think it depends upon several different factors, temp, tire pressure, tire tread amount, track prep, etc...
Now that the temps are dipping into the 60's, I'm tempted to hit the track again with my heavy 19's and see how I do...
OK, the stage has been set... haters unite!

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
Thanks for the support neffster.
I really don't know why my trap was so low.
Do all of you shift at redline on every gear? or just 1-2? Doesn't the HP and TQ drop off at around 5.5K? I guess the benefits of redlining a gear would put the next gear in optimal range? I haven't ran at the track enough to determine if shifting prior to redline would result in better 1/4 times or MPH? Anyone with input on this?...

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
Yes, VDC was off on all runs...I've read about the debate as to whether or not th VDC is "off" when the button is depressed, but I don't think that effect the manual tranny models? I've heard you had to take the fuse out of the autos?

This is not a personally proven theory, but I have to believe my own istincts on this. Shifting before the HP drops off is not faster. I have even seen tests done this way in some very credible magazines. There is a reason that a car has a transmission with gears. My opinion, is that a car left in first gear after the HP drops to 240 is still producing more power to the wheels (through gearing) than a car at 280hp in second gear. Some of you engineers can prob do the math and see if that actually works out on paper.

Re: Finally...1/4 mile times
Just my input. I also posted earlier about chirping 3rd to 4th and having the Slip light come on (and bogging down b/c of VDC). No one believed me then, so its nice to know I'm not alone. I'm with ya brother!! haha.. Nice runs !
