Re: how to unset auto-dim by default?

Are you refering to the rearview? My 2003 coupe has a button on the mirrror to do just that. Along the bottom is a "1" and a "0" button. The "0" turns off the dim feature.
Did the car come with the book?

Re: how to unset auto-dim by default?

I've not heard of anyone changing the default to off on our rear views.
I too have to turn mine off every time I get in. I do it now without even thinking, but I'd prefer to turn it on when needed instead.

Anyone???????

Re: how to unset auto-dim by default?

hmm...i only see the "auto" and "off" buttons..but i will try to look again...ya...i looked in the book..it wasn't in there...

i guess if pressing "off" EVERYTIME i get into a car is the only way to do it..then i will have to live with it..but...for practical reasons...its not the best thing to do...

i have a 2004.5 coupe wth premium package...i will look for the "1" "0" thingie =)..thanks for trying to help

Here's a pic of my rear view buttons -- the 2 at the end 'I' and '0' are on and off for the auto dim:
A little out of focus but you get the idea:

hmm..i guess thats similar to my "auto" and "off" button....i was hoping i can find something so that the auto wouldn't come on automatically everytime i start the car

Yeh, sounds like your "auto" and 'off" buttons are the same as my 'I' & '0'.
What we need to find out is how to turn off the automatic feature so it doens't default to on.

Re: how to unset auto-dim by default?

Doesn't that shitty little cable that runs out the back of the mirror just plug into the back of it? (damn fine design there) You could unplug it and loose the dim (and homelink) or figure out if there is ONE wire that would disable the dim withough killing the homelink.

OR... put a small piece of tape (like black electrical) just big enough to cover the sensor. It should keep the mirror from "seeing" the lights in the read and dimming. And if it is anything like my Honda was, you may need a matching tape for the front (dusk) sensor on the mirror.

Re: how to unset auto-dim by default?

In night-time driving, the dimmer works great and I leave it on, but in daytime it dims too much and takes away from visibilty....not much but enough that I notice it.
No biggie, - I'm used to turning it off now.

ya..no biggie...i absolutely don't want to lose the dimming ability...or homelink (the only way i can get home)...

don't even start talking about that stupid wire on the back...its designed so poorly that i can't even put on my parking permit for my school...grrrr...but ya...i give up...i will just have to get used to turning it off...
