(Oil Filter) Question.....

Can I take out the Oil Filter without draining out my Oil Pan? I think i didnt Tighten the Oil Coller bolt tight enough and my oil might be leaking from there. I had a leak before, so I changed out the washer on my oil pan bolt and the Oil Cooler O-Ring. I just looked this morning at my garage Floor and there was still oil drips on the ground. Any Suggestions?

Thank You.

Well I just changed the Oil Pan Gasket (thats the bolt washer right?) to a brand new stock Infiniti one. Anymore suggestions? I just dont feel like redoing a whole new oil change when I just did one Yesterday. I just have a slight feeling, I also didnt Tighten the Oil Cooler Bolt to 36lbs of Torque as specified. I just did a hand tighten. Could that cause a slight drip?

Thanks.

you cant just hand-tighten the oil cooler bolt, use a wrench or a ratchet and snug it down tight. If its loose oil will **** out everywhere

Yes, you can take off your oil filter without losing all of your oil. You'll lose whatevers in the filter and a touch more from the pan, but nothing more. Id say about a half a qt would be lost.

If you think its leaking from the filter, you may have double sealed it. Its a common problem and can happen if you use crappy filters, and or, the filter was way over due to be replaced and the gasket stayed stuck to the assembly after your removed it. Then, when you put your new one on, it just sits on top of the old gasket and will leak. However, normally, those leaks are huge and not just a drip or two.

As for your oil pan bolt, you cannot CANNOT just hand tighten that. Im assuming thats what you were refering too.

No those are two different things. You are referring to the oil pan drain plug washer.
