Rear window trim necessary?

The trim on the upper edge of the rear window is coming up at both ends.

Is this a necessary piece or just for looks? It doesn't stop water from getting between the roof and widows. It doesn't seem to actually seal anything.

Can I remove it without problems? I'm not a fan of epoxies, they never last long.

Thanks.

Not sure what trim you're talking about. Is the window tinted? Could it be the window tint peeling off? Post a pic.

it helps seal the window, if its coming up i recommend taking it off and replacing it so you dont develop a leak down the line.

Pic please.
There is a strip on top of the rear window that covers the satellite installation wire line. I took mine off when I took off the sat antenna. Not sure if that is what you are referring to hence the pic request.

Here's a pic, sorry.

Looking at it, doesn't seem to close the gap properly, so I can't imagine it's waterproofing anything...

Could very well be the sat wire, though.

It is just the trim piece that covers the sat radio wire. Mine was having the same problem and I just took it off and replaced the double-sided tape that holds it on.

Semper, it's just double sided tape holding the sat wire on? You completely removed the trim piece?

I think the car would look cleaner without the trim piece, personally.

Not needed. You can peel it off. It's only held on by double sided tape.

Thanks, Tian. I'll do that.

Won't have any issues with the sat antenna, correct?

Edit: Damn, I need to break out that bottle of Back to Black I bought, my trim is looking rough.

I took mine off so I couldn't say for sure. I'm sure the wire is properly insulated for weather but after awhile it may erode.

It should be fine if you take it off. I drove around with out it for a few months and it didn't effect anything. But yeah, the trim piece is just held on with double-sided tape. The wire just sits in the grove above the window.
