Anyone done "hard to fill fuel tank" repair?
When I fuel up my car, I can only reach a notch below from "F" and I cannot pour in more fuel as the gun will just keep clicking.
I think I need to have TSB ITB08-041a (FLV valve cover) service done but I am not sure if i can do it by my self because it requires you to install the alloy valve cover blindly. has anyone done this by their self? or has anyone had this done at dealership? if so, how much is that cost? Or will a simple Q-tip clean the sensor will solve my issue?
thanks

I discovered that it's not always our G35s when it comes to the hard to fill issue. The Chevron near me has one or two pumps that I simply can't fill the gas without it shutting off. No use saying anything to the towel heads that work there they don't know squat or care. No issues at the Shell station, fills up without any problems and I get to listen to their commericals....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is actually a recall and dealerships will perform the fix free of charce. IIRC one of the few recalls G35s had were faulty fuel tanks between a certain production date.
nope. not a free of charge repair. its a bulletin, not a campaign. i did the flv cover and the new shutter valve on mine. its been doing ok like 90% of the time, other than that....its cuz the pumps pump too fast which will cut them off as well. i wouldnt recommend doing this cuz its completely blind and in the tank and UNLESS you know what you're feeling for.....you more then likely wont get it. and you have to have rather short/small arms to get inside there too.

best bet is to replace the whole filler neck assembly w/ a new cap while your at it. If you think its the gas station you could be right, the older nozzles wear at the tip or dont pump properly and trip the shut-off baffles.

I've been able to successfully fill my G at the Arco and Shell gas stations near my house. I let it go to E twice when the light came on and I got in about 17 gallons at the pump. IIRC the reserve is like 3-4 gallons?
I had an issue where it wouldnt fill past 1/2 a tank... kept clicking.
Got the repair done.. worked for about a month then started again.
Now i just hold the nosel half in, half out, and cocked sideways and it fills just fine... haha i look stupid but idk, it works.

i would think somewhere around an hour of labor. 2 at max. if I was doin it, id charge an hour. which is $96 at my dealer. plus parts of course. but id go buy them yourself, see if the parts people will sell it at a better than retail price. good luck.
