shaky steering wheel

So i recently bought tenzo type m's 19's and put them on my coupe balanced and everything. BUt now when im at like 80mph my steering wheel starts shaking and increases the faster i go. it drives me crazy. What could the problem be all the tires have the same air pressure and are suposed to be balnced do you think it was balanced wrong or something?

Mighjt want to check the speed rating of your tires. Also is your car lowered? Did you get a wheel alignment after putting the wheels on? The heavier weight of aftermarket wheels can cause this happen too.

A shaking steering wheel is usually indicative of issues with the front tires. If your seat shakes, then its usually the rear.

Things to look into in order of likelihood:

Wheel(s) was not installed or torqued correctly. The tire rotation could be in the wrong direction.
Wheel(s) was not balanced correctly or at all
Wheel(s) is dented or damaged
Tires are not speed rated appropriately
Front alignment is incorrect
Wheel Bearing(s) are damaged

Best solution, drive slower! Ok for serious now. Take the wheels off and put them on again, torquing them in the star pattern to the recommended levels (90 ft-lbs maybe?). If that doesn't fix it, bring it to a trusted local tire shop and say wtf? If you had them balanced and installed at a shop, take the car back and say fix it.

thanks guys. I was also told about getting my tires dynamically balanced opposed to statically balanced does that seem right?

You were told this because you mentioned that it occurs at 80mph. At higher speeds, the dynamic effects of the rotation of the wheel are much more pronounced. At typical highway speeds, these are not severe enough to be noticed. My opinion is that dynamically balancing your wheels would be a waste, unless you intend to go faster than 80 quite often. My biggest suspicion is that they were installed or balanced poorly.

I don't drive at 80, but I've never had my wheels dynamically balanced and they are SILKY smooth at all speeds I do drive.

Only dynamic balance. If the shop doesn't do that, take it somewhere that does. Most tire shops stopped static balancing long ago.

definitely dynamic...static works well with narrow wheels and tires only.

He could have the worlds best tires and the balance perfect but if the wheels didn't come with the centric rings it will NEVER drive without issues. Is it possible they left that wheel alignment stud on the front rotors....scary thought!

I have this same thing happening to me at 80mph, stock suspension / 18s, I'm going to have it realigned when i get my oil done next week.

Not good enough wheel balance, incorrect lugnut torque, no hubcentric rings, or maybe a bushing issue.

Most definitely its cause of no hubcentric rings though

most likely hubcentric rings or it needs a rebalance...i doubt he bent his brand new rims already...
