Experts Needed: ECU reset gives better throttle response, but only for a while
Guys, need some experts' opinions:
Recently installed Ztube, Mrev2, 5/16 Copper Iso Spacer on my 07 6mt coupe w/ stock 19s and Hankooks V12s
After the install, I reset the ECU. I use Cumberland Farms (Gulf) 93 Octane. The temps have been between 35 and 65 for the last few weeks.
I have done a lot of searching, and the short story is the ECU reset should default me to the 1st of 3 performance maps:
1) Aggressive
2) Normal
3) Safe
Driving vigorously and maintaining quality fluids (including gas) should keep the map squarely in 1).
My questions:
1) When I reset the ECU, I notice a significant acceleration increase. I also notice a huge improvement in throttle response. A .5 second delay between pressing the pedal and response from the engine is reduced to the point where it feels instantaneous. This is an incredible feeling, but after driving on the highway for 2-3 miles, it reverts back to the old delay and may dampen the power, but its hard to tell. The power isn't a huge concern but how can I keep this wonderful throttle response forever?
2) I am assuming the map is defaulting to normal (and hopefully not safe) after a few miles because I just do too much cruising at 50mph to qualify for the "vigorous" driving descriptor. I'm slightly concerned that in actuality, its detecting some knock or other issue and adjusting the profile to keep the car in safe operation. Is there any way I can get more info so I can know whether resetting the ECU all the time will be safe or whether it will expose the car to more knocking or other undesirable engine issues?
Please let me know if you need any more info on my driving, fluids, or car.

im not sure if it will damage it , but we have a local shop here in seattle area that does tunes with osirus on a sh*t tons of VQ's. you can change the power maps and the throttle response and all of the other variables. and with a healthy tune you can go faster. then for day to day you can change it to Economy map to save gas, you should look into it. i plan on doing it after i do all my go faster mods
I really appreciate your help!
I don't think I will do any more mods to the car for a few years. I'm just not sure I want to spend the $500 or so I've heard it costs. Also, I'm NOT in a car friendly location, I'd have to go 2 hours away to get a tune.
I autocross a few times a year. When I do, I will reset the ECU and drive like the wind. But in my daily driving, can I show somehow that the engine is operating smoothly in the aggressive map, and the only reason it changes is because I drive in traffic where WOT is not an option? If so, I'll just reset the ECU anytime I feel like more spirited driving and not worry about it.

Additional maps to the three I've listed are Econ Map and Theft Map?
Cobb access port could tell me things like A/F or if knocking is detected?

Cobb for G35 is dead. Osiris from Uprev.com is the way to go... $700 for the tuner version, but it comes with Cipher and I think 3 e-tunes (where they create the maps for you based on a log that you send them).
Thx for the info. I think that would work, I'm just not really all that modded yet. In your personal opinion, with the three mods I've installed (totaling about $800) is a $700 tune worth it? Should I wait a few years until I get HFCs or other mods before doing this?
Always a good question, but its $700 for what benefit? Better throttle response and a few extra hp (5-10) is all I'd expect based on what I've read here. Unless I'm mistaken and would get 20-30 hp, and better MPG, I'd rather just stick with stock. UNLESS every time I reset my ECU I am damaging my car haha.
