New to the G

I am new to the "G" community. I bought an auto '06 coupe in December and have never been happier with a purchase. I am interested in adding some mods to the car but not sure where to start. Just want to get inputs on what other people think and have done. My main goal is to get F/I for it but not sure if it will be worth it since it is a automatic. Any inputs are appriciated

If you look at the stickied threads at the top of each forum you'll find a wealth of information such as this: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...pe-thread.html

On the subject of FI 400HP is 400HP whether it's paired with a 6MT or a 5AT. I don't have a clue where the thought of "is FI worth it if I drive an automatic" comes from but you're not the first person to mention that.

If you have the money, FI the thing! Like mentioned above, what does an automatic have to do with having more horsepower? Power is power.

Yeah, honestly I am new to anything that involves modifying any part of the engine. I obviously plan on starting small and working my way up as my knowledge grows. Thanks for the links, I will research some good initial projects.

I bought my G 2 years ago and knew nothing about the car. Then I found this site and turned this:

into this and have done all the work myself:

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Driver.

From my garage, here's what I've done, admittedly kinda weak by G35Driver standards, but all I plan on doing............for pics, click on my name.

Translation: With bigger, badder vehicles on my mind (title shall be mine soon), I figure why mod more if I can put towards the one of the Merc AMGs, Bimmer Ms, Audi Ss, or Lexus Fs of the world...........for pics, click on my name.

Of course, don't let that stop you from getting your G up to your spec. Mine's also an 06, and I'm more happy than I was 4.5 years and 30K miles ago.

As one Motor Trend editor put it, a 350Z for people with lives. And you think you're happy now? Your fun is only beginning.

Here's how I roll:

Pretty much stock, but neat and clean; a work in progress.........minimal mods:

*Wheels: 20x9.5 (R)...............20x8.5 (F)

*Tires: 275-30/ZR20 (R).....245-35/ZR20 (F)

*Tein 350Z 'H-Tech' Performance Lowering Springs for a .8" (F) / .7" (R) Drop.....1/2" more than it drops the 350Z, whic only drops .2/.3 (NOTE: As specified by Nissan-Infiniti, drops of .8" or less shouldn't - and didn't - require camber kit for realignment.)

*5AT Manumatic Shifter Reversal: Pull-Upshift / Push-Downshift (Sawgrass Infiniti service tech extraordinaire' Harley performed DIY wire swap)

*JDM Skyline 350GT Badges

*Tinted Windows: 20% All-Around.....5% Front Visor

*Smoked Taillamps

*Smoked Headlamps (pics pending)

P.S............The F/I is absolutely worth it if you want more power, regardless of tranny. I run manual mode in mine 90% of the time - traffic or not - 'cause it's so easy.

(And this is only for the last year or 18 months; prior to that it seemed a hassle. Never lasted more than 2 blocks.)

So, F/I? Yes! Especially with the directional change to a proper racing style sequential manual, which - needless to say - I highly recommend.

That said, for the normal daily driver's purpose, the mfg. setup is intuitive. (Better than M-Bs left-right manual mode silliness; what's that all about?)

But if ya like putting the power down at high revs like our VQ35s do, pull-upshift/push-downshift is THE s---.

Have fun.

Need to post pics! And there is a thread on here with what mods to do. Id start with breather mods, plenum spacer, new cat converters and then go from there.

I plan on taking more photos but isn’t really possible at the moment. I an in the Navy and currently on deployment. As for mods, I am completely new to this; I have no experience what-so-ever on doing anything to the internal components of a car. With that being said, are these first projects doable for someone with no experience like myself? Also, are there any threads on books and webpages I can read to help me start learning about this car? Besides for this page that is

I think he's talking about Forced Induction, not Fast Intentions

A MotorDyne plenum spacer is relatively simple to install and should be one of your first mods. This forum has pretty much all the information you need, so no need to go elsewhere, just go the respective subforum of whatever you're looking for.

As for FI, the only downsides we 5AT's have, compared to 6MT's, is that we have more drivetrain loss, and our tranny can't handle that much torque without it being built. With that said, I'm going FI in a couple weeks, hah. I have a 5AT too, btw.
