rev-up 6mt racing shift points

Today I raced my friends stripped eg civic with jdm h22a with I/H/E/chipped ecu with custom program (200 or 220hp in stock form). On the first race from a 2nd gear 3500rpm roll, I shifted at 7000rpm(according to tach). I was ahead in 2nd but then it was almost even by 3rd with him getting closer.

My car is an 06 g35 6mt with 350z z-tube, k&n panel filter, 07 350z hr y-pipe.

BUT...on the 2nd race we did a 2nd gear roll from my 3500rpm...I was ahead a bit in 2nd like always but shifted at 6500rpm and kept my lead in 2nd-3rd. I was ahead once again making a bigger gap and shifted from 3rd at 6500rpm again. Again I was increasing the gap and it was a clear win for me.

Any thoughts on this as lots of rev-up people seem to shift at 7000rpm.
Even in 1st gear at 6800rpm the tires will be spinning but once you go to 7k it spins less and grabs traction.

I have stock worn out 245's in the rear but going with 275/35/19's in a few weeks. Then ART pipes...maybe these pipes will increase my power range a bit.

Well, most cars and motorcycles make peak HP 2-3Krpm before redline. Unless your head is ported to rev to the moon, it is best to shift at peak HP (but you won't really know this until you get it dynoed), not redline all the time. I learned this when drag racing ATVs and racing as well. It was best to shift around 7K since my ATV lost almost 2 HP going from 7Krpm to 10K. Once I got it ported for mid-top end power, it made peak HP at 10K rpm. Anyways that is what you are experiencing.

Check this out for example, it would be better for this guy to shift at 5500-6000 rpm when racing

Thanks I will see what happens at the track. Rev-up power curves look similar but with peak hp being at 6500rpm as opposed to 6k, therefore if you suggest 5500-6k for him to shift then 6000-6500rpm would be good for me as tonight has proven.
Also because I shifted quickly and kept pulling away from him(he ran 14.1 at the track)..the 1/4mile seems like it MUST be faster shifting lower as I covered the same ground much faster. It was basically the difference of 2+ car lengths compared to being even with him and him pulling away at 3rd.

Nice, just be safe when racing. Don't do it down some boulevard or back roads at night.

I guess it would really depend on your HP at the RPMs you shift from and to. For example, if you shift at 7000, you're clearly past the peak, but if from 2nd to 3rd the rpms drop to say, 5000 (not sure if the drop is that significant), and the power you make at 5000 and below is less than the power you make at 7000, then you would want to shift at 7000, not 6500. I honestly don't know what the curves look like, but the image above is not entirely applicable since it is not showing power at rpms higher than 6500.

The difference in your runs could be caused by the clutch or your shifting at higher rpms being slower to get the power back on than at 6500. Not trying to say you're not an amazing driver at all, its possibly a deficiency in the stock clutch, which i believe you're running.

Anyone have curves showing 6mt rev up power vs rpm vs gear?

with my rev up 6mt, i get best times when i take it up until right before the limiter…. so i generally shift around 7000-7200. if you shift much before that our cars fall on their face when shifting into the next gear.

I dont need a dyno sheet to tell me that from 6500-7000rpm the power range drops of significantly..although one would be nice
The hp in the 5000rpm area is more than that in the 500rpm stretch before the 7k. Possibly the hr y-pipe is the cause but this is still good as im 2plus cars ahead of a 14.1 car. At the track a car length at the 1/4 mile line is almost a second..not saying im that quick but should be faster than 14.1

on second thought what I am feeling at the 5000rpm area might be the peak torque that transitions nicely for hp to take over and still giving it that extra pull

I usually shift around 6k-6.5k for my rev-up.

I raced my buddies 650ci, I beat him but not a lot.. it was so close lol and fun at the same time.
