ok. i'm a noob, not only to Gs, but to the whole wheel/offset/tire stuff. i have had several vehicles before, but all the tires/wheels were the same and i just always ran stock rims. i have had my g for a week today and it's gonna be my first car that i customize. trying to do my homework on what kinda wheels i want...and more importantly what size, offset, etc.

my first predicament is...i am in need of new rubber. bad. gettin loud. BUT, i don't want to put new tires on, then buy rims that the tires won't fit on. honestly, i really like the OEM 19" rays, which are currently on the car. but....who knows if i want to keep them.

i wanna run semi flush, but i don't wanna drop much, if at all. i don't want to sacrifice ride quality and i live in indiana and our roads all pretty much suck and we get potholes like 6" deep pretty regularly.

i saw a video of vossen vvs-cv2, but they only come in 20" what all would i have to do to make those work? here's the video.
in the video i think the thing is too low. i know it's how all the cool kids roll, but it's just not my flavor. the vossens are available in 8.5, 9, 10, 10.5, and 11.

i don't want skinny rubber band tires either, again...sorry but i just don't like how it looks. BUT...if i understand it correctly, i can't get too far off from the factory rolling diameter or my VDC will get all wonky, right?

so if you could throw your 2 cents in i would appreciate it. i'm not afraid to read either, but sometimes it's just overwhelming to get into a thread that has over 100 pages and about 85 of those pages are people bickering or saying "that looks cool" or "that looks ghey" so if you have a resource that is pretty concise, i would greatly appreciate it.

 

How bout some logic Hawk, keep the nice rims you have and just spend your $$ on new tires. Don't concern yourself with modding until you've graduated from college and have a great job. Just maintain what you have for now to the best of your ability....oil changes and car washes!

Do you happen to know the offsets of the wheels?
20x9 and 20x10.5 seem to be pretty common sizes.
Then do a 245/35/20 front and 285/30/20 rear.

 

would i have to roll fenders or anything like that?

and i don't know the offsets just yet. still looking around.

 

Let me ask you a question to better point you in the right direction or kindly give you some friendly advice, what kind of wheel / tire budget are you looking at?

I already have a general idea of what I can recommend you, but narrowing down a price would really help.

 

can't be rollin on no WORKs...i'm totally jealous. kon...your car is probably my favorite G on here. hands down. glad you chimed in. which side markers do you run? i just got some LEDs for my clearance lights, thinkin about gettin the LEDmarker ones that blink amber.

dunno, maybe 2K. and i'd have to be in COMPLETE love with them to justify spending that kinda money on it...which i think those vossens are over that anyway...without rubber. why's everything cool gotta be so expensive? just like my fish tanks...salt is so much cooler and so much more expensive...

wish i lived in a warmer place so that i could cruise year round....

 

Hey thanks for the compliments. And I can understand that not everyone can afford WORK wheels. We all have a budget. And I'm just running regular flat clear corners with 6K LED 194 bulbs for the lights. I have no clue what brand they are since a friend of mine sold them to me.

Okay, going back to your original question about wheels. If you don't want to sacrifice ride quality, then stick to 19's if you want to go aftermarket wheels. Concept 1 Wheels have some designs at a decent price, you could check them out. I haven't really looked at their wheels to know what diameters that they offer or what offsets, but I do know that they will be around your 2k budget, if not a little bit cheaper. They even offer a wheel that look damn near identical to my WORK wheels. Here's a link to their page.

If you want to run semi-flush, then you should look for offsets similar to mine, in the mid to high teens. I'm running +15 all around, 20x9.5 and 20x10.5 widths, front and rear respectively. It is nowhere near hellaflush, but the specs are perfect for a daily driven car. You will have have to roll your rear fenders with this set up, if you lower your car.

I saw that you mentioned that you liked the OEM Rays, which to me, are one a pretty damn decent looking OEM wheel. Another option you have if you decide to keep those is to space them out by running wheel spacers. Kevin Hahn, one of my favorite OEM style looking G's, is running that set up on his car. Here is a picture:

I think he's running a 20mm spacer in the front and a 25mm spacer in the back. You will have to roll your rear fenders with this set up as well, if you decide to drop.

Now, if you want a subtle drop, then your best bet would be is to look at springs. I would research the Eibach pro kit or the Tein S-Techs. They offer both a 350Z and G35 fitment. Remember that the 350Z spring kits will sit lower then the G35 application. If you're looking for a subtle drop, then consider the Tein S-Tech for G35 application, or you can look at the 350Z Tein H-Tech, since the H-Techs sit a bit higher then the G35 H-Tech application. It is the same with the Eibach pro kit, but I'm not too sure how big of a difference the 350Z and G35 kits are since I haven't been able to compare in person like the Teins.

I'm running 19 9.5 +25 and 10.5 +22 dropped about 1.5" and don't rub with 245/275 with no fender work, as long as you do go with too low offsets you should be OK. If you don't plan on lowering go with 20s as they will fill the wheel well better, plus oddly enough tires for 20s are cheaper than 19s.

 

I'm assuming you haven't read through the wheel/tire section of the forum? That place is a minefield of information, especially some of the stickies.

Who knows maybe you'll find something out that no one knows about and school us again..

Mine are 20x10 and 20x8.5 and Im dropped. My ride quality is pretty harsh but my G isnt a daily driver so it doesnt bother me. Personally jake I wish I would have went with 19s. I have sacrificed quite a bit of acceleration with the 20s on. I can tell a major difference from the stock wheels to the 20s.
On the tire side of things I have continental extreme contact DW's 235/30/20 front and 275/30/20 rear. The tires are sex.

I'm not sure exactly how to answer these questions you have.
You need new tires. Okay... Then get new tires. But then you don't want to do that because you're debating whether or not you want to keep your OEM 19's.

You wanna run semi-flush. Can't help you there unless you specify what rim you want; rims are made in all different sizes depending on the brand. Make a list of rims that you want and fit your budget, then ask about recommended offsets that fit your "flavor." Or you can just search for offsets, you'll quickly learn that the higher the number, the more sunk in the wheel will be. You can also search for your specific rim and almost guaranteed people will have asked about it or posted pictures of them on the car. If not, go to the media share section and ask for pic request. And again, figure out what rim size you want (18, 19, 20) before asking for tire sizes. And see the thread I posted for you above, there are some great resources there.

Those Vossens are beautiful, but based on your criteria, don't even think about running them. You need to be fairly aggressive (offset/size/lowered) in order to pull those off. They will look BAD if you're going conservative.

General rule: bigger rim = thinner tire = rougher ride. Decide what you want. If you want more comfort, run a smaller rim size and 35-40 series tire. For small drops you won't have to roll fenders so that's one less thing you need to worry about. If you wanna go with 20'' rims, you' will need to drop the car in order for it to look good and run thinner tires. As a result, you will need to deal with the harsh road conditions.

So yes, I came off as a condescending *******, but you really haven't done any of your supposed HW on this. You don't even know what you want yet, how can you ask other people to figure it out for you? Get a list of rims, do a little more research, search for your very commonly asked questions (I provided links to some of the answers already; surprise, they're both stickies in their respective sections), and THEN come back for the specifics.

 

OP, I'm running the OEM ray's with 25mm spacers all around, stock suspension.

i appreciate it all. again, i've only had the car a week, and i'm still excited and tend to get the cart ahead of the horse. but i'm trying to figure all this out so i don't get burned on buying stuff, then it not being what i want.

The Vossen CV2 in 20 9.0 F and 20 10.5 R shipped to w/Falken fk452 tires is $2899.00. Tire sizes are 245-35-20 F and 275-30-20 R. would this necessitate fender rolling? and would i have to drop? to me the car in the video is dropped too far.
