Looking for some feedback from G35 coupe owners

Hey guys, I'm gonna make this quick so you don't have to read a wall of text. This summer I may potentially have access to getting a G35 through the shop I am working at, and I would just like some opinions from the guys who actually drive them. Currently I am driving a 2003 Audi A4, and I love it to death, but if I can get a good deal on a G35 I probably won't pass it up. Basically, I would like any general feedback/facts about the car, specifically about the reliability (are there any serious common issues that occur with this car?) and mod friendliness (like engine modifications, clutches, etc).

Thanks guys!

Which ones? I havent really heard of any that would pop up as a reliabilty standpoint.
I would point out oil consumption with the rev-up, compression rod bushings, etc.

^^ I cant think of any electrical problems either asides from the bose stereo potentially going wonky.

mechanically... door actuators and window motors seem to be the popular ones, oil consumptionon the rev ups/leaking valve covers, compression rods, that's about it off the top of my head.

How serious is the oil consumption issue? I did a bit of research and it seems that the dealer will cover it for you if it becomes a problem. Is this a lifetime warranty kind of thing? I know that the ignition coils for my generation Audi were faulty, so they came out with some new ones and replaced them for free if there was ever an issue. What exactly are the compression rod bushings? I've never heard of that before.

Also, how mod friendly are these cars? I'm not really looking into doing engine mods since this will be a DD, but I definitely want to do a suspension, brakes, wheels, bumpers, headlights, etc.

G35 info....

Rear diff mount is gel filled, leaks black gel over rear end when it breaks, infiniti only sells the whole rear subframe, about $1200 at the dealer or have someone replace it with a sold metal one(got mine for $75) and hammer the old one out and put the new mount in.

Sway bar end links go bad(rubber)

Compression rods/rubber goes bad on front end (alignment issues) got this done for about $300 at a 350Z local performance shop.

Door locks and window regulators go bad eventually. Bose head unit connected directly to climate control. Best best is to replace with aftermarket double din then spend the money to replace with factory.

Valve covers leak at rear spark plug holes, fills spark plug with oil. Possible misfire if not replaced. have to replace complete valve cover since seal is part of the cover.... Got a set off a "oil comsumption" motor with about 25k for $75 for the set.

All in all not a bad car. Rubber goes bad, door locks and window regulators go bad on most cars with auto unlock/lock.

Plus this car has never left me. 148,000 miles and counting on our coupe. did most of the suspension/rubber and valve covers/sparkplugs at 110k.

Put some money into it and I shopped around for parts and labor. My neighbor is an Infiniti Master tech(does the fluid exchanges) etc. for me. Says these motors last forever. Even at the dealership he works at its all scheduled repairs 90 percent of the time. The rest usually is lack of doing service intervals.

Hope that helps.

Just get an 06' or 07', with as low mileage as possible. DO NOT BUY A 100K clunker. Really popular buy around here lately. It will have worn out brakes, tranny, tires, engine, you name it. The oild consumption problem is predominant in the rev-up motors. Nowhere near as common as most of us on this type of site claim it to be. Most of the brake and uneven tire wear and faulty window motors are particular to 03-04 models. Then again, those were some of the first versions of the car, took them a while to get it right.
Again, don't get a high mileage, cheap beat-up clunker and you should be fine. It's my third Nissan and I absolutely love it. I still own and drive my 2K SE Max that I've owned for ten years and has 255K on it. GL with your choice.

By using a solid mount have you noticed any noise or vibration compared to the stock mount?

Great car fun to drive but at 6'1'' after owning it for awhile it became to small for me. Mostly in head room and hip room.

Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate it! Anything else that you guys know about the car would be great, like little quirks, things that you like about it, etc would also be great. I kind of want to get a feel for the car before I really start to pursue it.

Solid mount info

Yes the solid diff mount does create more noise, that I noticed....My wife(not into cars) did not notice. It is her daily driver hense the 148k in it.

No oil consumption in our nonrev up automatic here. Running Mobil one since 15k on this motor. Just had the brakes done at the dealer. tech always tells me he will buy it when I am ready to sell it. He has been an Infiniti tech for 15 years.

Told me it should go another 140k. The rearend, tranny, and motor are exceptional on these cars, from what he told me....I have to agree considering are good luck with this car.
