back shelf brake light removal with spoiler

Anybody (with the spoiler) remove the rear package shelf brake light assembly, since the spoiler has a brake light? How is this done? Does it leave a hole? Is it legal?
My tint guy will be removing it anyways...and I do not know whether to tell him to put it back or not....

Did you put your spoiler on after buying the car, or get it as a dealer option? If it came from the factory with the spoiler, you wouldn't have the brake light in the window; the doubled center brake lights come from dealer or aftermarket spoilers. Yes, it's legal, as long as the light on the spoiler works. You just need one center mounted brake light.

Thnks!
Yes...spoiler was dealer-installed option....is the shelf rear brake light assembly easy to remove and does it look o.k. afterwards?

geezer,

Instead of removing the light fixture completely, why don't you just tint the windows out and just disconnect the light. If the windows are dark and the wires are de-tatched, no one will ever see it. Just a thought.

I like the leave-it-in-but-off idea.

My sedan came with a spoiler from the factory. There's a gray carpetted spot where it's obvious the brake light would go, but it's just gray carpet. That looks fine. I don't know how it would look with a hole there.
