yes batleground did do that, in fact i believe they were the first to do it,

by the time you spend 5-6K on the RB engine, probably 1-2k to remove/install it, completely rewire the car, i dont know how much that would be probably a grand or two, then a turbo kit, why would you want a NA RB? thats another 4-5K, all in all youll have spent about 15K on a car that only pushes about 500hp, you could just spend two-thirds the amount of money, and have a vq that pushes about 6-700hp.

somebody like signal auto or motorex recently did a RB swap with a turbo and only put out 400 at the wheels with stock internals, tell me, whats so special about that?

plus if batleground didnt finish it, face it, you aint going to either! sorry.

I have been involved in a couple of RB swaps into 240's, it was a major pain in the *** to get everything to work electronically, and this was on a '90 240. I couldn't even imagine trying it on a G35.

If you want an RB engine put it in a 240, you won't be disappointed, there's nothing more beautiful then the sound of an RB going through the gears.

Personally I'd just import an R33 or an R34 GT-R to the states and call it a day.

OK, like I said, I'm not paying for this. All I need to get is a RB26 front clip, which I can get for around ~3k. The rest of the labor, etc is not being paid for. I think its well worth it as the RB26 puts out good power with little work and is a very capible motor. I would rather spend 3k and have that motor than spend ~$1500 on I/H/E and only gain like 15hp.

Please guys, I know everyones entitled to their own opinion, and if you think its a waste of time and money, thats your opinion. I think it would be worth it. If we could please just stick on topic here to my original question, what would it take to make it work? Not reasons why its not worth it.

Also, tig488, do you have any more info on these 6-700hp VQ?

And yes, I am GReddySetGO from MO

go check out MY350z.com, there are a few there, phunk had the highest stock internal VQ at 480 i think, his motor along with about 30 others are being built right now, my car was one of those but i decided to sell all of my forged internals to another member, kudos 350z hit 600hp with a built engine, see his car at SGPRacing.com along with shawns G35 that just hit very high 500s, there are a handful out there now, but give it a few months, there will be MANY VQ powerplants out there hitting easy 5,6 even 700hp.

There was a 350z with a rb25det swap I saw long long ago. The rb26det can put up up to 1300hp if its fully built and I'm pretty sure no vq35 has done that yet. Anyways I think the sawp would be way too costly and by the time you were done you would have no money to mod the engine. Of course having the heart of a GTR in your car would be tight and to have the first g35 with that motor would be awesome. It's your money, so have fun.

Mine will be one of them.... In my garage I have a VQ sitting there, I have forged pistons, forged rods, complete stud kit, my fuel system is already upgraded (somewhat). All I have left to buy are the cams!

For those 4,5,600HP VQs, how much money was invested to make it produce that much power? I'm talking internals, EMS, turbos, etc. What was involved?

A lot.

But, still a significant amount less then if I swapped out another motor and upgraded it.

To do EVERYTHING look to spend around $18,000. That should include all labor, parts, and tuning.

Educate me . . . what does the RB have that a fully built VQ couldn't have? Strong stock internals?

This reminds me of all those people that are still fixated on swapping a 5.0 into their brand new Mustang GT's . . .

Theres an old saying:

There is no replacement for displacement.

I'm not sure why someone would want to put a smaller engine in the G or Z. Sure, the RB is legendary, but I think in the long run the VQ will prove to be a better motor.

Exactly. With forged internals and a good HCI package, there's no reason the RB would be any better than the VQ.
