Transmission fluid change...at 80k?

I did a search and got alot of info I just wanna get the ok once again so I dont F something up....

I have 79k miles on my 03 coupe...i found this video

http://infinitihelp.com/diy/gsedan/p...on_service.htm

is this exactly what I want to do myself cause I read you do not want to do a full flush....

also my shifting in manumatic mode seems sluggish and sometimes a little jerky....hoping this new fluid may help that..I dont think it has even been changed.

thanks

oh and does autozone or any shop like that sell the tranny oil

Transmission fluid is supposed to be changed every 30K miles as are all fluids. Maybe that's why your tranny seems sluggish? You don't need a flush, just have it changed using Nissan trans fluid. A flush in your case could do more harm than good....

Yes, I agree with the above poster's comments. You'll need to buy that J-matic transmission fluid, do not use anything else. J-matic is not cheap so make sure you get the correct amount. I think a change is 3 quarts and a flush is 5 quarts? J-Matic is something like $25 per quart!

yeah dont flush, did that with 75k miles created tranny problems. Now it slips in 1st when it is not warmed up btw its 11qts for a flush because your replacing all the fluid and in austin tx it cost me 15 dollars qt for j matic.

You want to use Nissan Matic-S fluid for the tranny. It's newer than the Matic-J stuff so get that. I would recommend buying it yourself online and then either doing a drain and refill yourself (takes about 3.5 quarts) or paying an auto shop to do it for you.

$25/quart??? That's ridiculous! I bought mine for around $8/quart w/shipping so dont get anally raped like the previous poster.

LOL, just for the record I've never been anally raped to my knowledge, literally & figuratively. I don't know where I got that $25 number, possibly a dealer quote. Where would one find it @ $8 per?

Check out eBay, thats where I got my fluids from. It was a few months ago and I forgot the exact numbers but a guy was selling Matic-S for I think $9/quart and he had a best offer button thing. I offered I think $6.50/quart and it came out to around $8 with shipping. I bought 10 quarts, I still have 3 left.

I didnt mean to talk **** with my previous post, I was just saying that $25/quart is alot and I would feel like I got anally raped if I paid that much.

And regarding that video, I just did a drain and refill, which took about 3.5 quarts. It depends on your situation, if you bought the car w/ low miles and the guy did the trans flush at the recommended time then I would do a flush which should take around 11-13 quarts. But if you haven't changed the tranny fluid in a while it could do more harm than good if you do a flush and your better off doing a drain and refill.

I had my transmission drained and refilled at my Infiniti dealership and it runs great; like others said, do not get it flushed.

If it wasn't changed for a very long time and i mean you have records of it changed every 30k miles since new then do it. If you got the car as a second owner and never changed it i wouldn't even touch it, it will do more damage then good. At what mileage did you buy it with?

you're only about 20-30k from putting a new trans in. buy 4 qts of S fluid and a new crush washer for the drain plug. 19mm bolt. let it drain and resecure bolt. get a funnel that will fit in the dipstick tube (long yellow one) and pour 3 qts in. IF your 03 has an actual dipstick, then you will know what your level is at. IF NOT, then idk what to tell you. lol find someone with a G that has one or just take it to the dealer cuz they have a dipstick tool for the earlier models. leave the car in park and let it warm up fully while you are setting the fluid to the FULL mark. pretty simple.

I flushed mine at 90,000KM then again at 170,000KM. In the manual it says to flush it at 120,000KM.
