Spare Tire
Spare Tire
I'm taking my G to the 1/4 mile track this weekend and thinking of removing my spare tire for weight reductions. I'm wondering if it would benefit my times or if it would have negative effects due to loss of traction because of less weight over the rear wheels.
If any of you have experimented with this or have any input it would be appreciated. Thanks

The general rule is 100 lbs = 0.1s off your 1/4 time.
So you'd need to remove the spare, tools ... and alot more things to get 100lb to maybe see a difference.
If you really want to see a difference get some lightweight 17s. Rotating mass is much different and gives much greater results.

Thanks for your info, I picked up some 19" Rays a couple months ago, so that should shave about 16-17lbs off for rotating mass from my stock 18's.
I think I will remove my spare tire and tools for the night, I'm sure it won't hurt. I have free roadside assistance if I get a flat.

Rotating mass should be kept close to the axis of rotation to reduce inertia. The rays may has less mass, but it's all at the outside. If you got a 17" forged wheel, you'd be more apt to notice a drop in ETs. Look for the lightest tires you can find, too, if your priority is to lower ETs.
