I have read most if not all the posts on here regarding what seems to be a common issue: inner tire wear aka as "feathering". I wanted to get feedback from those that had this issue and went out and bought the SPC camber kit. It seems logical that this would cure the problem. It seems illogical that Infiti wouldn't have a camber kit already installed to get the tires to be in direct contact with the ground as opposed to a diagonal. I understand the handling aspect, but to have the tires wear so unevenly is not a good trade-off.

Another question: When the kit is installed, I assume you want the specs as close to zero as possible with no "toe-out"? Am I correct with that assumption?

It seems that no all G's have an inner tire wear issue.
Once the kit is installed you want to set the specs to OE or close to OE as possible. I believe that in the range of -.2 to -.08 for camber and toe of -0-. I dont have my spec sheet with me so I may be off a bit....

 

I want to do the same thing to my G. The insides of my tires are starting to wear noticably. would this aftermarket kit or swing arms eliminate this??? also with the tires i have on there now i have noticed that close to 100MPH i start getting some shaking that wasnt there before could the wear on the tires be the issue??

 

The two of you claiming inner tire wear, do you have your G lowered? Anyway, a camber kit will get you very close to spec. A lot closer then you are now. This is the entire reasoning that they exist.

 

If you are feathering its toe, and its bad.

 

If you're lowered or not our G35s have issues with tire wear, a camber kit will fix that issue. Having you alignment done by someone that's knowledgeable is also a factor! That doesn't mean you have it done by Firestone/Sears or PepBoys regardless of their life time warranty b.s.! Find an independent brake/alignment shop in your neighborhood, everyone has at least one. Alignment can be set once, done correctly will last for years or until you hit a curb watching some honey cross the street.

I got SPC's front and rear camber kits. I am only lowered an inch in the front and half in the rear. I have my camber set at 1.1 all the way around. I could have gone more positive by just a little bit if I wanted to. I don't drive to aggressively just the usual spirited driving and my tire have lasted almost two years. My toe is also on point. Definitely worth the money.

 

camber kit helps out alot. i was at -2.5 all around until i got the kit. THe fronts are now -1.7 and rear is still out of spec at -2.1. I plan to go to a different place to see if i can get those number lower. Well, higher since it's in the negative

 

Inner tire wear is going to happen. Our cars come with negative camber stock. Feathering happens when your toe is off. Go get an alignment by a reputable shop. I'm lowered on Eibach 350z Progressive Sportlines. 1.2" for the 350z. 1.7" for a v35. I have SPL Camber A Arms set at max positive camber, which landed me at -1.8 both fronts. Also, I installed Ichiba rear camber arms and toe bolts. Only could get up to -2.4 rear camber, but my toe is set to 0. Having your toe off spec could potentially wear a brand new tire within a week.

 

It depends on your setup, pretty much everyone runs some negative camber and most people run a bit of toe. You can set your toe to 0 and very little camber to preserve your tires if you want...

 

I'm on z htechs and here are my specs..

Right rear -1.9 camber .15 toe
Left rear -1.8 camber .09 toe
Left front -1.7 camber .02 toe
Right front -1.6 camber .02 toe

This was as good as I could get it without any camber arms. I will definitely see inner tire wear but I doubt it will be enough toruin my life lol. Plus, I can just flip my tires and I'll be fine.

 

So how bad is rear total toe of 0.30? Left rear is 0.14 and right rear is 0.16.

Front total is 0.10 with left 0.06 and right 0.04 so it appears on point.

I keep seeing mixed messages with the rear range...

 

On the firestone sheet they say total toe for rear should be between 0 and .44 and the front should be between 0 and .16

 

Same for the place I had mine done but it was a performance shop... granted one that targets BMW's but still they know what they're doing.

 

I am not lowered. My car has the sport suspension with the 19's. The shop got it as close to spec as they could with the stock set-up and my inner tread wore out so much, you could see the threads of the tire and the rubber had holes in it! So according to my research, it seems that the control arms (camber kit) will indeed resolve this issue. I'm going with SPC since it has received good feedback. I want to avoid the cheaper ones because I don't want to run into anymore problems due to lack of quality with bushings etc. Thanks to this forum, I was able to save a lot of money, aggravation, and heartache! So thank you fellow G enthusiasts!
