Yeah the transponder activates when you turn the key in the ignition which then allows you to start.

However I think proximity has something to do with how the alarm activates and I assume the chip is what allows that to happen. I'm not certain, which is why I'm telling the guy to try and see what happens. That way he can come back and either confirm or there's another problem. It seems to work for me so IDk.

It could also be a time delay. Try waiting like half a minute then unlock the door.

Be sure to check if it's a time delay too.

Lock it and leave the key away from the car and wait right?

The only way to check your factory alarm is to set it with the fob while sitting in it. Wait 30 seconds and open the door by flipping the toggle on the handle and pulling the door handle open.

Ps. Yes my car is super dirty I just came back from Vegas lol..
LOL. When you UNLOCK the car with the key, it disables the alarm.

Probably put in place so that if the alarm fob was dead, you can still drive and get into the car.

i might know the solution... when you lock the car it takes about 30 seconds delay to activate the alarm.. there should be a red LED light in your car.. when you lock it it will be solid red for like 30 seconds.. when it starts to blink that means the alarm is activated.. try this and tell me the result
