Engine Clicking and Shutting off

Hey guys,

Wondering if you guys can chime in and offer a few suggestions and help with my scenario.

I bought my car used last year. It was running fine for a couple of months until the engine start clicking mildly when I hit the gas. It did not click when it sat in neutral. I then stored it for the winter.

This year I took it out in March and it was basically the same issue. I changed the oil as soon as I took it out in March. I tried changing back to the same oil which the original guy used but it did not help. The noise got a bit louder in May/June. As of last week, it's really loud now, almost sounds like a tractor! It also clicks mildly in neutral now, but a lot louder when I hit the gas. Also in the past week, the engine has been shutting off on me while driving. Every 5-10 mins, no matter what RPMs I'm at or speed level, engine and ignition dies while driving.

A couple of mechanics told me the engine is dead. I may also think the same.

A friend of mine who also works on cars, said that it may need a valve adjustment. He advised that the valve springs may have gotten loose and needs to be tightened and adjusted. The problem I believe started when I did my first oil change last year and he advised that the car will need a valve adjustment when changing different types of oils..especially considering it's been using the same type for 7 years.

He works mostly on Hondas and Acuras and I'm not sure if valve adjustments are available for Infiniti motors. I asked my mechanic about it and he told me you can't adjust valves on these motors and that the engine needs to be swapped..only solution.

Looking for your feedback guys...what are your thoughts? I can take a video of the noise as well if you want and post it today...

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I bring the car in.

Naturally you checked all the vital areas like oil etc? When your G was stored for winter did you leave your battery disconnected? If so your ECU has forgot how to idle and at what RPM, common issue really. SEARCH (idle reset) that should solve your problem. Honda mechanics....

Yes, vital areas have been checked..oil is good, doesn't burn..it's not low and I changed it recently.

I can definitely have the idle reset. I had the battery disconnected when it was stored but I've been driving it since March and the car shutting off only recently started a week ago...so I'm not sure if that would be the cause or it would have been doing this for months now.

Any suggestions on the engine clicking?

I'm no mechanic, but that sounds internal to me...like a rod knock or something similar, especially with the increase rate with increased RPM. You're probably looking at a new motor if that's the case.

I'm being told it's rod knock, pistons, etc..basically motor is gone.

I read a bit about the LS swaps and they're not cheap...I think for the money it's better to maybe swap the motor and turbo/supercharge it? The mount kit alone for that LS swap will cost me the same amount of money to have a new engine installed with labor (bit over 2k).

I noticed the 2007 G35 has 25 more Horsepower than 03-06. These motors will not fit? It's still a 3.5L...not sure if anyone knows? I don't want the rev up motor due to the loss of torque..

Thanks

How many miles do you have? Doesn't sound good man Is it possible to rebuild these engines? New bearings, rings, and such?

Before you allow this engine to become a boat anchor have a qualified Nissan mechanic check her out, it may be something very simple and easy to fix....
