Finished Product:


I'm going to stick them on my black XXR521's but I wanted to paint it black first, to match. I want to leave the emblem chrome, though... This is my first time painting anything, so I have literally no experience. Is it just me, or is it like... a huge pain to cover up the chrome? Thing is tiny... Any tips?

Welp, I'm discovering that I can sort of push the tape under the logo a bit. Still a pain, and still got 3 more to go, not even done with the first.

Scratched the **** out of it XD. Primer should heal that up? Pretty sure I ended up scratching some of the chrome on the logo too I can't really check until I peel the tape off. This is difficult with all of these tight curves...

Finished second center piece. It went a lot better, but it still took a lot of time, and I still messed up a bit...

So after losing patience since no one knew anything about the oem center caps, I decided to grab a sharp object and attack the damn pieces. On the back of of the center caps are two blobs of melted (and dried) plastic. I tore at those with a sharp (and very durable) object until it pretty much looked ****ed up. Turns out it was a good idea. After a while, I was able to push down on those two spots and the logo on the front popped out. I repeated this process for the other three center caps as well, and they all did the same.

The picture below is the back of the center cap, with two ****ed up plastic blobs (after I attacked them) with the emblem still in place on the front.


The picture below is the back of the logo itself, after being popped out. You can see two studs on them, which is what was sticking into the center cap and attached to the plastic blobs.


And finally, the two pieces side by side. You will notice there are four holes. The smaller outer holes are pretty pointless. No idea what they're for, but I left them alone. The two bigger holes are where the studs from the logo went in, and attached to the blobs.


Still gotta paint them, flatten out the studs, and see how to go about sticking them on my rims.

Here's one of the logos. Another low quality picture; it's not perfect. In fact, I'm pretty upset/angry at how it turned out, but it is so hard getting the tape to fit tightly... You have to examine it really close to notice the flaws anyway, so I think I'm going to just... Stick this ghetto thing on my rim.

 

I'm guessing the emblem should pop off; but may damagge it in process.

Keep taping? I guess i would do that, or cover in vinyl/trim.

 

You didn't mention that you scuffed up the emblem before painting, that makes the paint stick better. Taking the emblem off if possible is the easiest way to go allowing you to work in more detail.

Looks like you are on the right track.
Another option that you could do is roughly tape up everything but the Infiniti emblem, then spray it with plasti-dip. Once dry you can use an X-acto knife to trim around the emblem to get a cleaner edge. Now you paint the cap as you wish, then peel the plasti-dip off the emblem.

 

Welp, I just taped all four of them. Took forever but it was pretty relaxing since work was slow as ****. And yeah, I plan to go over the piece with sandpaper before primer and yeah. Yeah. Didn't paint yet.

no tape necessary...just use hy grade enamel with brush, put on liberally and then with soft rag wipe off the Mt FUJI...works for me everytime.

Thanks for the tips, but as I said before, I already taped all four of them up, so yeah.

Besides, I was an idiot and only assumed these thing would fit on the aftermarket wheels. I was wrong, and I had to find this out after playing in the rain with my car

So, some other things I'm considering is seeing if the chrome logo comes off of the centercap. I'm afraid to risk ruining it though... Does anyone know 100% that the chrome logo will come off of the cap?

bump again. Here's (below) what the logo looks like on the aftermarket centercap. As you can see, there is a gap underneath the Infiniti logo. I'm not sure if I should be worried about this. Can I just stick the logo on there and not care about that hole? I don't really see how or why it would cause any problems, but I'd like to ask the community first. Anyone? Please and thanks.

 

Since no one has been replying, I guess no one cares, but I thought this turned out so nice that I wanted to bump this xd.

 

Turned out really good. Painting the inside must have been a PIA though.
