Thumbs up Results of my Drag event last night!

I everyone! So, most of you who know me, know that I am a race junkie. If there's gas, rubber and ET's involved, I'm generally there! So it won't surprise you that I was at the track yet again last night. I went to LACR (lacr.net, 2700ft above sea level, 53 degrees ambient) and did my personal best.

When I first got there, I emptied EVERYTHING that wasn't tied down out of my car. I did my first run and ran a 14.4 @ 102mph. I was pissed because the last time I came I had my 19's on and ran a 14.2 @ 102mph and this time I went with my stock (lighter) 18's. So, I ran a few more times and could not hook up for the life of me. I'd spin all through 1st, into 2nd where I'd start wheel hopping, into 3rd where my a$$ end still felt squirrelly until the top of 3rd where I would finally feel solid and dump into 4th. This was consistent every run. I even had Tom (White35C) and Tony (Hydrazine) ride with me to feel what I was feeling (both of which I ran a 14.4 with them in the car). So, somebody suggested I let some air out of my rear tires. I went down to 30psi and ran a 14.3...progress. Ran a few more times but still felt the slippage. Went down to 25psi and ran a 14.21...more progress...but from that point I couldn't get any better time. Finally, after being challenged by an EVO VIII owner to race, I went down to 22psi. Our first run, he got me with a 13.5 against my 14.3. Then he asked to go again...I staged up and this time REALLY heated the tires up. I lined up...yellow, yellow, yellow ...GO! I shot off the line with NO slippage (just a perfect launch) which put me ahead of him since my reaction time was .265 and his was .375 and I accomplished a 2.222 60ft, into 2nd, no slippage (boy, I really heated those babies up!), come 3rd gear he's gaining on me went the impossible happened, he miss-shifted his 3rd gear which I knew immediately because of the rapid lead I suddenly had. This run felt perfect! I rolled up to the time slip tower and grabbed the slip. Immediately I looked down and saw a 13.9 @101mph and got excited, until I looked up and saw that I was looking at HIS car number column Car #113...so immediately I'm bummed cuz I thought I ran a 13.9, that was until I look over to see that my time was a 13.691 @106.4mph! Now, corrected at seal level per LACR's website, that's a 13.28 @ 109.6mph. The EVO owner pulled up next to me in the staging area and gave props and asked if he could take pics to show his buddies in the EVO forum (BTW, Carlos, if you are reading this, great job pulling off a 13.9 after miss-shifting!)

Needless to say, I had an awesome time at the track and I wish more of my other G friends could have shown up...you missed a great night...btw, there were only 18 cars total the whole night so it was a free-for-all when it came to runs.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, before my 13.6 run, not only did I let air out down to 22psi, I put the spare tire back in my car to add weight to a a$$ end and set my suspension dampening to 4 in front and 6 in rear (for those of you that don't own the Tein Flex with EDFC, that's real stiff!)

Thanks, Paul. I was averaging a .2xx or .3xx all night. Some tracks measure with .500 being zero and some measure from .500. So when someone tells you they ran a particular reaction time at a track, it's always good to ask how the reaction time is measured. This track measures with .500 being 0.00, so my equivelant time at a track measuring from .500 would have been a .765...this is because anything under .500 is considered a farse (or foul at the track) because no one can actually react faster realistically.

Thumbs up

Yeah that sure was fun. Best damn $15 spent in a long time.
Like Randy said there were so few cars at the track you could just loop around and get right back on for another run.

My best ET @ 14.867 was when when I raced against WHITEG35C (Toms) bad *** C6 Vett. Even though I had nearly a 0.25sec lead on rxn time I got spanked by over a second on ET. My G's best wasn't close to Tom's Vett but it was fun to race against such an awesome looking beast.

A little OT. I have to comment on the looks of the C6 Vett. That thing looks so damn good... They sure have improved the look of the Corvett recently. I couldn't stop staring at it!

He is not FI, he is NA with a Stillen exhaust, plenum spacer (he designed! What a genius!) and a Stillen intake system. I have to say that Tony is truly a natural driver. A 14.867 (14.420 at sea level) on his first time to a drag strip, especially LACR (in a Sedan to top it off), is awesome! The best ever accomplished there by a G was 14.6 and that was by Clint (THX723) and he has headers, test pipes, y-pipe, exhaust, z-tube, Kinetix plenum and years of driving experience. Great job, Tony!

it was fun but at same time it was soooooo cold. I did 13.67 with c6 not corrected and I didn't know that A/C was on...(I forgot that when I turn on the heater, A/C turns on too )

Randy, do you think a full tank of gas would have helped you connect a little bit better? More weight over the rear tires should definitely help a little, no?

aznracer,
My sedan is normally asperated with a few bolt on mods. Stillen exhaust, Stillen CAI, and a large plenum spacer.

This was my first time drag racing so I don't really know what's a good ET for a NA sedan @ ~2500'.

Talking

Randy,
I just read your post after I hit the post button for aznracer. (I got pulled into a meeting mid reply)

Thanks for the Kudos. That was a lot of fun. We'll have to do that again. Mandatory Fun
