cracked compression rod bushings?

I went to the stealership for an oil change (only cuz i had a coupon) and they told me my compression rod bushings are cracking and need to be replaced... i was quoted some 900$ for it....

Im currently out of warranty but I know there was a tsb out for it saying to only replace just the bushings?
How do the service bulletins work? are the dealership required to address the problems even the car is our of warranty?

What should I do? should i buy aftermarket ones and have them replaced at a mechanic?

I am in the same boat. I will soon be purchasing
http://www.z1motorsports.com/350_g35...oducts_id=5193 <--these and installing them.

Even if i was to pay a trusty mechanic to install the bushing, my total will still be under $900

How can labor be $800?

This is a perfect example why we don't go to Infiniti for service. My favorite come back to Infiniti service managers is, "Do I have STUPID written on my forehead?" Buy the bushings on line and find an independent brake/alignment shop in your area and have them pressed in....NBFD!

All i can do is laugh at the price. I can't stand dealers with overprices prices. Max it should cost $200 with parts and labor.

Ok will buy separately and have it installed...
Now about the tsb.. are the dealerships required to fix the problem mentioned in tsbs? Or are they just references to fix

Call the thieves at the stealership and ask them if it's covered, myself I'd rather pay than have them touch my coupe as long as cost is minimal....

Nope, just a reference.

Just had my compression rod bushings (CRB) replaced in San Diego at Kearny Mesa Infiniti (KMI). They charged about $450 for the entire job including parts. It took them about 1 hour to perform this repair service.

Car is an 03 6mt coupe with about 42K mi on it. KMI claimed that the bushings deteriorate over time and that it is not mileage related. I got the bushings back and can not see any cracks even with a magnifying glass. (Possibly the "cracks" show up better when the bushing is on the car.)

My car did not have any symptoms of worn out bushings commonly described in previous posts. However the loud front end road noise seems noticeably quieter since the CRB replacement. Have any others noticed this improvement? My tyres are original.

Nissan Part number for bushing is 54570-AC70A. Note that there might be a date of manufacture on these just above the part number. The date appears to be yr/mo/day format. Assuming that Infiniti is correct and these parts deteriorate over time, it might be best to demand newly manufactured CRB's. One of the ones I bought was dated June 1, 11; however the other was dated Dec. 24, 10; which is nearly a year old already. Had I known this I might have insisted on newly manufactured CRB's.

From the various posts above, it seems that Infiniti has decided that the cost will be at least $450 no matter how quickly they can get the job done. I guess we are supposed to be paying for experience more than actual shop rate costs.

Monster520's approach is very appealing and if I keep this car for another 6 years I may be attempted to use it.
