Got my first G Ticket

Soooooooooooooo last night I was on my way to downtown when i realized a CHP was tailing me and sure enough his lights went on. He stopped me for speeding, he said I was going 85+ He wrote me a ticket 22349 (a)
He said I will get something in the mail. On the ticket he wrote "80+"

How much will this ticket be? I live in San Diego
Tips on what to do? Traffic school? etc?

Thanks!

Had he written you for 85 mph your G could/might have been impounded! What were you thinking, driving that fast? Flow of traffic around here is 70+ so you were easy to spot. Hopefully you weren't stopped in a construction zone which has become the CHPs favorite place to hang out, fines are doubled and CA. needs your $$! First ticket, might cost you $400+....

Problem was I KNOW I wasn't going 85+
When I first saw him, I checked and I was seriously going 78 :/
I wasn't in a construction zone.
Good thing they didn't take my car i guess :x

Yeah because cops make up numbers all the time because they need to fill their 'quota' for the month.

I dunno about that man.

When I go to CA sometimes I'm pushing 80 just to keep up with the flow and I'm not even passing anyone.

Don't be so dramatic Garyc. Yeah Cali is in dire need of cash but unless you're close to doubling the posted speed limit the chances of ur car being impounded is rare. And doing 85 on the freeways out here isn't that uncommon.
That being said, OP if u have the option just take an online traffic school test.
Trying to fight a speeding ticket is difficult unless the ticket states you were doing 32 in a designated 35.
Point being the cop didn't give you enough leway on the ticket to allow for reasonable doubt

Traffic averages 75-80 on the 5 & 15 near San Diego.

I think the price depends on the state but I paid around $450ish, including traffic class, for doing 20+ over.

I got my first speeding ticket 6 months ago in San Diego as well, going 80 on the 56, and used this guide to fight it and won!! Whole process took ~ 4-5 months but well worth it.

The ticket will be like 300+ and if it's your first ticket within a year and a half you can do traffic school which should be under $100

First G Ticket

Points?
I am unaware of any point system in Texas, and I've been driving 20 years.... that being said, hard to get pulled over in a Minivan, or Nissan Versa, granted I did get pulled over in the Minivan few weeks ago, but that's in a different thread LOL

Yup check it out...I didn't know either until they sent me that stuff in the mail. It's under Texas.gov/driver and under the Texas DPS Driver Responsibility Surcharge program thing. Most likely if u got a ticket u got 2 points now on it

Chances are you were going 85+ at some point if you looked down and saw you were doing 78 once you saw the cop.

Agree that traffic can flow at 80, but if it isn't one of those times and you're running almost ten over (I'm assuming you were in a 70MPH zone?) then you're easy to spot.

It's gonna cost. Guys here are probably shooting pretty close - I'd guess $350-$500, maybe more if you do the lawyer/traffic school/court routine..

Hope you learned something from it.
