Spring sound/vibrations behind brake?
Spring sound/vibrations behind brake?
I've been searching about this for awhile, but haven't been able to come up with anything.
I have a 2005 coupe, and for as long as I've had the car, I hear/feel a spring-like sound. It's hard to describe, but it's loud enough that everyone asks me what the sound is.
As far as I can tell, it only happens once -- when I initially begin driving the car after it's been sitting. It may be happening constantly, but I don't know.
For comparison sake, you know those spring-like doorstops:

It sounds like when you bend one of those and let it go.
Once, at the moment when that sound was being generated, I had to slam on the brakes, and I could feel this vibration (seemingly inline with the sound of the spring) in the brake pedal.
I know this sounds bizarre, and I can't seem to find anyone else who has experienced a similar issue.
Any ideas? Are there some kind of "spring" in/around/near the brake, or associated with the car initially starting?

You can relax, that sound is normal. What you are hearing is the ABS self test the car performs every time you start it and start moving. It happens around 10 MPH and to me it sounds like running over a grate. The reason you feel vibrations in the pedal is the car activates the ABS momentarily to make sure it's working correctly.

No worries, this is the first car I've driven that does it so it freaked me out the first few times it happened as well.

THANK YOU! i just purchased my 05 G35 and i noticed that I hear a sound (only when I haven't driven my car in awhile) and after I brake I hear a metal noise.. but only ONCE.. then it doesn't happen again at all when im braking. didntk now it was the ABS doing a self test. it's only when I first drive the car after not being driven for awhile and happens within the first 30 seconds of driving it at low speed.
