Fuel gauge?

I think i have a faulty fuel gauge...ie my tank is half way full when im driving but as im driving the needle will go down for a couple of miles then go back up to where it was supposed to be or a little bit under? idk its making me mad cause im spending hella money putting gas in it so soon.

The crazy fuel gauge is normal in a G35. My gauge will fall to the last 1/4 of a tank very fast and then stay there for a long time. The best thing to do is just figure how many miles you can drive on a tank and go by that.

Do u kno why it does that!? i once drove my g35 till the light came on it was all the way touching the needle stop and the light was on it kept driving lol i seen a thread somewhere i think it was on here where someone took the gas pump out of the tank and cleaned the fuel sensor and it worked fine but idk.

My empty tank light used to go on at only 200 miles so one time I drove it to 275 and now it goes on at 275 lol. I would say drive it past the empty and push the limits a little to try and get the computer to know it has more capacity than it thinks it does. I want to push it until it's normal like other users but I'm afraid to push mine until it starts to sputter and I end up stranded... I would suggest cleaning the fuel sensor unit by the rear seats.

My gauge usually shows 1/4 to 1/2 tank lower than it actually is. Found out its fairly normal for Z/G sending units to go bad. Read a fix where you can wipe off the little boards attached to the base of the floater arms on both units but its a permanent fix for some, temporary for most.

Mine does the same thing. Today I started it with less than E, fuel light on and within 20 minutes it was at 1/4 tank.

I've thought about bringing a gas can with me and driving the car until it started to die but I was afraid to suck sand/junk off the bottom of the tank.

If it's got more than 1/2 tank it seems to read correctly.

i want an accurate reading instead of judging how much fuel is left in my tank lol

When I first got mines I noticed that the needle would bounce around and wouldn't give an accurate reading. I then had problems with filling the tank and the pump would stop before it reached half a tank or sometimes a 3/4's. Had the dealership replace it for free since it was still under warranty and I've had no problems with the gas thank or needle readings anymore. No recall but TSB for them to fix it.

Aren't these "boards" usually submerged in fuel? Circuit boards? Or are you cleaning some junk off that prohibits the floats from floating/moving correctly?

I will search around for that fix.

I assume it's this one. ( 8th post ) I will attempt this when I get some time.
