2005 Lighted Steering Wheel Button Retrofit?????

For those of you with the new 2005 G's, do you steering wheel buttons light up with the dash? And if so has anyone retrofitted these buttons/lights to the older 2003-04? A nice mod if possible!

I believe I read that the steering wheel controls on the 05 do light up. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to retrofit. Although i suspect the part isn't that cheap.

yeah, the steerlng lights up and the transmission also lights the gears.

I found out yesterday how to display MP3 artists, song names, and folder names.
I am sooo much happier now that I can see the group and song name.

Haha, g35sandiego, i feel ya on that mod, but i doubt anyone is willing to start taking apart that steering wheel, knowing in the back of my mind that there is an air bag tucked under there, i dont think id mess with it either. good luck tho, bet the mod isnt worth the money...

yeah you don't want to screw with anything that may affect the airbag.
If a mod does come out, get it done by a dealer to make sure your airbag and safety sensors stay completely intack.

I was thinking of this one as well.
But instead of using the '05 buttons, I was looking
at adding LEDs in behind the current buttons.

I know the buttoms would not be illuminated,
but the light should leak out arround the edge
to at least make them easier to find at night.

You guys are right about the air bag.
It has to come off first to get at the buttons.
That's what stopped me for know, but I now have the
proceedure for taking out the air bag, so I may have annother look.

The '05 upgrade would still be the best way, if possible
(?wiring may not work)

but this may be an alternative.

I dont know about anyone else, but I pretty much know which butons are what by now. I dont need a light to check which button I am hitting. It seems like lights in the steering wheel would get annoying after awhile though.

i own an 04 coupe 6mt and rented an 05 sedan 5at for several days.
the buttons did light up, and they were more easily pressed (at first it felt like they were cheaper)
Anyway, i would probably just change out the steering wheel before I attempted to do the LED mod. Plus you'll get the yellow stitching.

Yeah guys really think that getting at the lights includes removing the airbag? I guess running a power line for the button lights could involve the airbag. Oh well... but hey not that I want anyone here to ruin a new 05 steering wheel but if someone does post us some pics! I soppose our memorization of button location is a 04 feature!
