Performace Question on 5AT
Hey, I got my G35C 5AT a little over 2 months ago, and for the first 1000 miles i drove the car fairly mellow, and until recently i began to drive it harder. My question is, have i sacrificed a lot of the cars potential by doing this, or is it not that significant, or am i still okay? Thanks!

Not at all. You prolly did the best thing for it, and helped to extend its life.
Now that it's broken in, it's time to enjoy it even more.
Welcome aboard BTW... Let us know your empressions of the new ride now that it's broken in.

Well at first I wasn't that impressed, but once I used that MM I was blown away, all that power really is on tap and just waiting to be pushed, almost like its asking u to redline it everytime. It's very fun to drive! I was really surprised at how people talk about the car not being tossable because of it's weight.. this is really not evident, my car tackles any corner i've thrown at it with ease and minimal rear twitching (except once very slightly in water i didnt see). Bottom line, im very happy with it.
One thing you might want to do is reset the ECU. The adaptive ECU will "tune" itself to your driving style. If you went easy on the car during break-in (I did the same on my 5AT) you might have lost some of the more agressive shift paterns. I recently reset my ECU and noticed a definate difference in the overall performance of the car. It was like it was sleepy before and now it's fully awake

NYCXLR8,
just how did you reset the ECU? I am at ~200 miles and taking it easy for the first 500 or so miles. thanks

I took it easy for the first 400-500 miles. I only went up to maybe 4200+~ RPM.
After that I starting going to like 4800.
Now im at 865 miles and have gone up to around 6000.
Most of the time after 500 it was mellow, maybe 15% of the time pushing it a little.
But I want to clean it out every so often.
I'm almost getting ready for my redlining time.
It's hard to say what is the best way to break it in, but I would say it's okay to push it a little after a few hundred miles.

i followed this advice (see URL) and my G is an absolute joy to drive. fully stock 6MT. i'm not sure on this, but i believe the ECU also controls the throttle, so mashing on it for a while really seemed to set things up nicely - very quick throttle response.
