05' coupe: Is it okay to jack more than 1 wheel at a time?

Hey all,

I just got my ride detailed, and I wanted to plasti-dip my rims before they get messed up. I see in the owners manual how to jack up and remove a single wheel, but I was hoping to do them 2 at a time.

My roommate has the Z, so I have 2 jacks... is there any issue with jacking up the left front, and left rear at the same time? It's already been recommended to me that I loosen the wheels first (as to not jerk the car off the jacks trying to loosen the bolts,) but I was curious if there's anything else I should do?

The manual mentioned blocking your wheels... I'm not sure what to use for that, but basically anything heavy?

Thanks!

You can do both front/rear. I've done it with no problems. Yes, you should loosen the lugs first. Very straight forward. Not sure what "blocking your wheels" means, but I don't see how there would even be another step other than loosen lugs, jack up, remove lugs, remove wheel, do what you gotta do.

Be safe, good luck, have fun!
Also, probably edit out the "I wanted to plasti-dip my rims" part.

"blocking the wheels" was from the owners manual... they basically just put something on either side of the non-jacked wheels so they don't move. And LOL @ edit out the plasti-dip—it's just to protect the rims for the upcoming crap weather... now my brembo brake covers, those are just pure style!

Thanks for your help!

Oh, good idea. Sure beats buying another set of rims specifically to get ****ed up in the winter. And I suppose blocking your wheels sounds like a good step to take. Not sure what'd be good to use; I feel like if the jacks are going to slide, even a cinderblock wouldn't stop them if they're under car pressure. But I suppose it'd prevent the car from hitting the ground.

don't leave your car up on scissor jacks ever unless it is an emergency flat swap, buy real jack stands.

Interesting... I hadn't considered those jacks being unreliable for extended use; the car would need to be up for at least a few hours.

something like this? http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...36&R=202332236

2-pack for $25... I can get with that.

The stock (emergency) jacks have been documented to fail many times, people have been injured and I'm sure killed by using them as jackstands rather than their intended use.

Yup, just some basic jackstands like that as long as they are rated for the correct weight are fine and will be much safer!

The G coupe is ~3500 lbs right, so a 2-ton (4000lbs) jack should be fine, but the 3-ton jacks are the same price so... sweet, I'm going to go to Home Depot right now to grab those.

Thanks!

It's $25 for two 3-ton (6000lbs) jacks... that's a bad price?

I didn't mean their was a specific problem with the ones you were looking at necessarily, you aren't lifting your entire car's weight onto one, or even two, jackstands.

buy a jack & jackstands it will make life a lot easier and if you are willing to spend another $70 or so then get a electric impact wrench. I have all 3 above and I can get my wheels off in about 5 min if not less.

I was planning on using the emergency jack to get it on the jack stands, but you're suggesting just buy a more reliable jack as well.

So then maybe something more like this? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...uestid=1765262

The emergency jack is so annoying to use >.> I used it to lift some of my suspension to make for easier removal. Twisting that thing endlessly makes me appreciate pumping so much more lol
