Hi,

My passenger headlight went out today when I turned on my car (it's the xenon light). I've tried a search and found limited info...can you please help me with these questions before I go to the dealer?

- Does anyone know the cost to replace the bulb at the dealer?

- My car has 80,000km (~50,000miles) What is the normal life of these bulbs?

- Could it be anything else - e.g., a fuse, etc - that I should check before going to the dealer?

ha man my 44 thou mile 04 G passenger bulb went out last week(yea i was pissed)...installing them yourself is fairly easy if you have an idea on what your doing...good bulbs (phillips) will cost you over 100 for a set..IMO you should get 2 bulbs instead of 1 because the lights may look different due to age..
infact what ill be doing is im buying a set of projectors (hell bulbs are 100 alone why not spend 400 more for a whole set of nice looking projectors)

Replacing the bulbs is super easy, just jack up the front end of the car and remove the front part of your fender liners. It's even easier if you take off the wheels but can be done with them on if you want. I'd put the bulb that's still working in the light that's not to confirm it's a bulb issue. If the working bulb doesn't light up, then it's probably your ballast which is on the bottom of the light assembly. It's a small grey box that's only held on by 3 screws, swap ballasts to see if that fixes your issue. If that doesn't work, look for a blown fuse.

I believe bulb lifespans are fluid and they can last forever or go out any time. I would recommend replacing the pair if that's the issue, ne need to spend $100. Check with vendors like Marinelli Motorsports or MrWong@Statik for great prices on quality bulbs. GL with the fix and let us know what it was.

Quick update - when I turned on the car this morning, surprisingly the passenger headlight came on...then about 2 seconds later shut off. When I turn the lights off then on, it comes back on for a second or two. So I doubt it's the bulb or the fuse. Any other ideas?

I have an appointment booked at the dealer for tomorrow......

Before you go to the dealer and spend money you sholdn't have to, open up the fender liner on that side and check 2 things:
1. That the bulb is installed properly. Make sure it's seated tight in the housing and the silver clamp is holding it tight.
2. That the plug for the igniter (braided silver cable) is seated firmly on the back of the bulb. If it has worked itself loose that could be causing the issue.

If your bulb is starting to go bad it might cause the off and on you are experiencing so the bulb is still a possible problem.

Yes, please avoid the dealership for what sounds like such a simple solution. To me, it sounds like the installation is loose, and the slight vibrations from the engine are causing it to shake too much. Try Blue Dream's suggestions before the dealership invites themselves to your wallet.

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to try a DIY as I was heading to Pittsburgh over the weekend. Took it to the dealer...as it turned out it was the light bulb. Cost $325 + tax (roughly $110 for diagnosis, $35 labour, $182 bulb). Next time will try myself with the links provided...at least it wasn't something more serious. Thanks again.

Holy sheet! I'd shoot myself if I paid $325 to replace a bulb! They're $80 at you local auto parts store. Install is 30 mins tops. Hope you at least lubed up before taking that raping!

No offense, but checking the fuse should be step one.....not the last thing you do after you've taken half your car apart and swapped everything around.
