What to look for when buying a 2006 g35 coupe
#16
I purchased my car a few months ago (07 Coupe/Manual). I just recently adjusted myself to the clutch this past week. The shifter is sticky between 1st and 3rd gear. But once in fourth the clutch works quite nicely. I agree with a previous comment in saying that this car is not meant for quick acceleration off the line unless you make the modifications for it. It wakes up more and you progress through the gears.
Some things you should look out for are:
1) oil consumption
2) fluid levels and condition (clutch, coolant, differential, trans, power steering)
3) gas gauge reliability

Thanks for the tips jiggy. I think later I will maybe take the car to Infiniti and ask them to do a full inspection/change fluids. I know i'll get raped for that but I plan to keep the car for a while so may be worth it. I dont know when the diff fluid or other fluids need to be changed.
Anyway I managed to snap a couple shitty quick pics.

I can see how doing fluid changes and recommended maintenance through the dealer can be an advantage to maintain a paper trail if in fact a defect were to slap you in the face later on down the road. Usually they would want to check your records to see if the car was properly maintained through thier company before signing a fast check on a warranty repair. But to be honest they charge an arm and a leg for the most simple maintenance jobs.
For example, I wanted to have my coolant, differential and tranny fluids changed through the dealer. They wanted almost $100 more than what my local mechanic wanted for the same service. Plus my guy stated that he follows all specs per the manufacturer when it comes to fluid exchanges (no shortcuts or substandard fluids to make a fast buck). So you can see the big picture. But then again my car is out of warranty so it would be a cold day in hell before I bring it to the dealer for routine repairs and maintenance jobs. I am not knocking their abilities or quality of service, I just can't deal with over paying for basic job functions.

It's a wonder what a simple search will do for yah.....
First time buyer, thinking of getting into a G35 and this is the first thread I looked at... now I know what research needs to be done...
Looking for something in the 10k-12k price range. This means it will be either 03-05 with 100k miles on it. I need to check for the following:
Research OC* what does mean? And does the car have that issue?
Power windows ok?
Radio ok?
AC unit ok?
Suspension clicking at low speeds?
When was suspension replaced?
When was breaks rotors replaced?
When was Valve cover gasket replaced?
---------
That's all I got so far thanks for a very useful first read.

Oil Consumption. Mostly an issue with the 06 model. Many were fixed under warranty/recall. Unless there is proof that it was fixed (full engine swap) I would avoid the 06. I bought one use. It burned oil. I got rid of it. The 07 has a much better engine.
Nissan/Infiniti forgot how to make power windows. Have had problems in my 06 6MT coupe, 07 G35x and my 07 350Z. All minor but still unforgiveable.
shouldn't be an issue.
Shouldn't be an issue unless the car is tracked. Should last more than 100k. Can be trued on a lathe if need be.
