Mobil1 Extended Performance Motor Oil???

I just saw a TV commercial for Mobil1's Extended Motor Oil. They stated extended performance for 15,000 miles? Does anyone feel safe running a motor on 15,000 miles between oil changes? What is the use life for a filter?

What's your take on this?

I have run AmsOil to 15K three times in mine so far. Right now I'm using Mobil 1 "High Mileage" and changing at 7500. I use about a 1/2 quart in that distance.

I have 103K on mine.

I believe modern oil can go extended miles. My concern is with the oil filter. If I went beyond 3k I'd still do the oil filter at reasonable intervals.

The best filter you can buy is the AmsOil "Ea" filters. They are far and away so much better than anything out there at this time.

it seems too many people want to run their OIL to extremes...WHY? even the best oil filter will only take out impurities up to 11 microns....so think for a minute do you want your oil running thru your rod and crank journals with abrasive 10 microns in you oil?:...I have been an engine builder off an on for too many years and I have seen the insides of these engines when folks just get too lazy and do not heed the obvious.

the above site gets into the nitty and "gritty" learn all about OIL learn about OIL FILM and OIL shear before you start putting in 0W10 in your high revving motors.

I've put 38K miles on SLICK since I brought her home in early 2K04 does it seriously make sense that I would have only changed oil twice since then? I don't care what commercials try to convince us to do, that's just lame! I change my AMSOIL and Wix filter three times a year regardless of mileage, for me it's more about time than how far I've driven. Overkill...probably but that's what I do.

Oh for God's sake, the original VW's didn't even HAVE an oil filter and they ran for many years.

You base your changes on several factors. Temperature, dirt, driving habits, driving type.

I used to have a 91 GMC Sonoma PU, I would change my oil religiously at 3K. EVERY TIME I brought it in for a change (company truck) the guys would say, "why are you changing this oil, it looks the same as the day we put it in?" I did almost exclusively, highway driving. I started it up in the morning, drove down my 200' drive and it was 70mph for the next 8 hrs. (Salesman). If I was driving in the city, short trips, dirty air, dirty streets, dirt roads, yeah, I would change it at 3K again, but there is no need if you run your car at least an hour a day.

I personally have never past 5K miles with any oil, I usually change it around 3K. Do you really want to gamble with your engine to save yourself what, $50-100 a year on oil changes?
