Is it me or do our cars idle loud as freaking heck?????

I am only 3 months into owning my 07 Coupe with 72,000 miles.....

I just can't help but notice that my car at idle is one chatting loud mouth SOB. I just hear allot of chatter from both the motor and clutch. My oil is ok and always topped off. I use Synthetic oil. I do not hear knocking. Very slight ticking but that could be resonating from anywhere. On some days I hear it all the way in the rear of the motor then on other days it comes from the front of the car where the timing chain cover sits. It doesn't burn too much oil. When I did pull all the plugs they were golden tanned at the tips. Perfect burn in my opinion. The belts are good to. No squeeks. Fans seem ok. Plus the car runs really strong.

But enough of that. There are no leaks, no smoke, no surging idle, oil and all fluids are fresh and topped off. Nothing that sticks out at me except for how this car sounds. I also average 600-700 RPM during idle.

So is it just the nature of the beast?

What's your take on this?

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic.....Should I use Castrol Synthetic European Blend to quite her down a bit?

I installed new belts and noticed a huge difference at idle. They weren't squeaking, but made a very high pitch/frequency 'whirr'.

I love how our cars sound at nearly any rev speed.

Yup my idle rattles my dam steering wheel. No fluctuation in rpm, just shakes as though the AC compressor is on. Funny thing is, it never did this before Installed an aftermarket exhaust or when it was on. Now that I'm back to stock, it instantly started doing this. I suspect something with the exhaust being loose or maybe gaskets? Who knows..

The only thing that's louder than most cars on my G is the exhaust at idle, and the tire noise when driving (as a result of the usual 20K mile tire feathering).

Our car's aren't going to be as quiet as a brand new Camry or Accord (some of these cars you can barely even tell they're running while at idle), but when they are in good shape, I'd say they're comparable to most other vehicles with similarly sized motors to ours. We do have a timing chain in our cars too... and I've noticed that cars with a chain can sometimes be slightly louder than ones with a belt.

Didn't think of that and you are right...

Yep, its the nature of the beast. Loud idle. Just wait for the squeaky clutch pedal for the sounds to be complete.

Jiggy, everything you describe is normal especially since your ride has 70K miles on her clock. Cold idle is 1100 rpm and warm 600 rpm, so you're in the ballpark...

I think the faint tapping noise you're talking about is most likely the injectors/variable valve timing which is normal bro
