6MT OWNERS!!! Do you feel this?

Sup all...

I drive with my left hand on the wheel and right hand on the shift ****.
Always.

And so i feel the different vibrations and such in the engine at the ****.
But i'm wondering if this vibration is normal.

For instance, I'm accelerating through 4th gear at about 3500 RPM.
Then i let off the throttle to let the engine brake kick in and slow down. As the RPM comes down, there is a brief instance when my shifter vibrates harshly.

This being my first MT, i don't know if this is normal. But it has been with me since day one. Just wondering if it is indeed normal, or something i should have a tech look at.

So basically, while engine braking, shifter vibrates (noticably harsh) for a second or two. Like there's a sweet spot in the RPMs.

Anyone?

Are you a first time stick driver...hehe nah I'm just knockin ya....perfectly normal. What you are feeling when downshifting is the gear actually catch, so yes the stick will vibrate a bit harsher. After the harsh vibration it is then just normal engine vibrations causing your stick to shake.

YOu shouldn't drive with your hand resting on the shifter. You can accidentaly pop it out of gear.

Red face

With "both" hands, 6MTs should measure pulse and heart rate too. Well, maybe the next release.

Having owned 3 manual cars before the G35, I was also surprised that the shifter
vibrated so much. I test drove the Mitsu Lancer EVO just before I purchased my
G and the shifter in the EVO was much smoother, with no vibrations.

But like everyone is saying, the vibrating shifter is normal on 350Z/G35. I've learned
to just take my hand off the shifter when I'm not shifting.

+1 I don't know if it's me, or if the tranny isn't quite broken in yet, but the 350z shifter seems to vibrate even more. I haven't even taken it passed 4.5k rpm yet.

As you described, the vibration is caused by an increase in back pressure on the engine / tranny / exhaust as you let off the accelerator. This is normal albeit more noticeable on the G / Z's.
