Exclamation Shift Lock Button

So I was trying to add a cable to the back of my navigation system of my G. I wanted to get traffic updates and that cable goes in the back of it, as you know we have to take the shifter console in order to get to the radio. I was putting everything back together, and the final part was to put the shifter console in place. When I put it back the shifter was stuck in D and N and it didnt shift further up. After examining it and opening the shifter assembly I noticed that the bezel that indicates what shift you are at was making contact with a broken piece inside!...I found out that the small clip that moves when you press the "Shift lock release" was broken.
I removed the piece (It looks like a long clip) and now the bezel slides freely inside. My question is, will I have any problems now that my shift lock will not be active? Meaning, will I ever need the shift lock?
Or what effects will it have?

I havent put the shift console back afraid that my car might be stuck in parking when I put it back....

Help!! thanks!

By the way, I am guessing that piece is part of the shift lock release, not totally sure though

No, the blue clip is fine and safe. I am really not sure what's the function of that broken clip. I think it is not connected to the shift lock and I don't see any function for it. I will try installing the plate back later today. Hopefully it doesn't give me any problems
