Angry Removing Sunroof Wind Deflector?

I bought my 03 Coupe 6mt last year from a guy who already had the sunroof wind deflector installed. It has been driving me crazy, so I finally removed it. To my dismay, I noticed there were marks left by the stupid thing. Has anyone had this same problem, and if so, how did you get it fixed? I would hate to have to put it back on. Please help!!

Have you tried compound working your way down to paint cleaner and then wax to remove the abrasion?

(I hate those things)

I am pretty sure the marks are not from adhesive. I'm not even sure they use adhesive to attach it. I tried buffing it out with some of the wax I usually use, but to no avail. What type of compound/paint cleaner do you suggest? I am not too familiar with what I should possibly use.
