winter prep - wax/sealant coating and rust protection

I called the dealer and they told me sealants are only used when the car is brand new. Is this true? If not, could someone recommend a good sealant? Also, any tips before applying it?

Also, I noticed a lot of rust under the car, especially at the rear license plate area. I've been searching around and I see some people using Rust Check Coat and Protect spray. Does this work well? Any guides as to how its done?

I know it's a lot of question, thanks in advance!

I don't really trust the coats. Just wax the car 2 to 4 times a year and prevent any more rust.

I have no idea how to stop rust, besides POR.

I'd get a beater if you don't like a rusty G.

Not to sure about the special coatings offered at dealer. Does the dealer ever offer any "great" deals... I used to detail cars and I like the Meguirs products specifically the NXT next gen. polymer blend waxes. They hold up well if applied twice a year. I like to polish with a scratch/swirl remover once a year to remove washing scratches and water spots, bird poop, etc. As far as rust goes you have to sand the paint and seal/stop the rust at the source. It literally is feeding on the steel. If its just small rust spots caused by a rock chip you might get away with a touch up paint and clear coat pen. You can dab the spot with rust inhibiting primer then touch up with paint/clear. On the undercarriage there is a rust inhibiting spray..
