Oil filter size?

I've looked all over the boards and can't find an answer for this.
I had an oil filter wrench that is physically a wrench which grabs the oil filter. I want to change up and get one of the ones which is a cap and made to fit onto the oil filter and has a 3/8 drive to attach it to a rachet.

The only thing is I can't find what size I need. it seems there are sizes A through I but nowhere can i find what size to get for use on our cars. Can anyone help me out?

Here is a link to the type of wrench I'm looking for.

Outer Diameter = 2.685" or about 68mm (Wix 51365 filter)

Is that what you were looking for?

Keep in mind, if you need a wrench to get it off, it's wayyyy too tight, and you sure don't need one to put it on. Man hands are the only tool you need.

If you want pretty much the best oil filter wrench known to man.... get this one:

Amazon Amazon

I have bought like 4 of those. I initially found out about it when I borrowed one from a friend and was so impressed with it that I decided to buy a few of them because I know so many other people who could use them. I've given away my 3 spares to friends who tried them and were amazed by it. Honestly... there aren't too many generic type tools that are as amazing at what they do as this thing is for removing oil filters on any car, motorcycle, snowblower, ATV, etc. You'll never need another oil filter wrench again because this thing is adjustable and will not slip, no matter what. That harder you turn the ratchet, the tighter it grips the filter. I had a guy at work who bought a new car and could not get the stock filter off, despite trying like 4 different wrenches on it, borrowed mine and could not stop raving about how great this thing worked.

You don't need a wrench, buy K&N oil filters HP1010 than all you'll need is a 1" socket for your 3/8" drive and you'll be using a very high quality filter...

If you have an Auto-Zone near your house, give that a try. I think my local Auto-Zone had those things in stock at one point, but I haven't seen them on their shelves in my local store lately.

Exactly... It doesnt need to be that tight. Just lube up the filter a bit with some of the new oil and it will be a good seal. No need to use a wrench and potentially have problems getting the old filters off.

And +1 on what Gary said about K&N, although I am using a castrol filter this time since it was on sale with the oil I purchased last time.

Punch a screwdriver through the filter and use that to gain leverage as a last resort.

Fast forward 8 years...WIX OIL FILTER 51356 filters better than K&N and quicker! No wrench needed, hand tighten making sure the old gasket came off the previous filter or you'll have an oil bath in your garage! Add some oil before installing the new filter so you don't have a dry start which might cause damage...we can't afford!

Best oil wrench I have ever bought is a large pair of water-pump pliers. They adjust to any size filter and I haven't encountered a filter yet that I can't remove with them.I do a lot of side work so its quick and easy.

Back in 2014, I cut up around 6 oil filters to see what was inside. This was basically a copy of what I saw another guy do, but it was around 2009, so I had to do it again.

Wix XP, Mobil1, Fram, Subaru (I owned a Subaru at the time), K&N, Royal Purple.

Wix XP was the only one with a coil spring and not a leaf spring, and it was one of two that had a cotton gauze like material. The rest, including K&N had paper.

It was also the one with most capacity...smidge more than the rest, but still.

Since then, I have always used Wix XP.
