Oil Filters
I just bought some Mobile 1 M-108 filters for my car and was shocked to see how small they are. I can't believe that a 3.5 V6 would have a filter this small, it looks like it should be on a moped or something. I was just wondering if the stock filters were similar in size. This will be my first oil change so I don't know how big they are.
Re: Oil Filters
I purchased K&N oil filter for mine. I was also shocked at the size. Yes, that's it. I checked out Fram & Nissan's filter to see if they were the same & they are.

Re: Oil Filters
Yes me too. I use K&N also. When I saw how small is was (the HP-1008) I called K&N Technical. The Tech told me the HP-1006 is a little longer, a bit larger in diameter, but has the same pressure specs. It fits fine, and I've been using the HP-1006 with no issues. IMO, K&M oil filters are tops.

Re: Oil Filters
The Maxima filters are slightly larger. I use them (recommended by the dealer).

Re: Oil Filters
Use the M1-110 it is slightly larger with the same pressure valve. Mobil 1 filters are better than K&N because the use a synthetic fiber vs a paper element which is less likely to break down/ clog. They also have a higher filtering percentage vs K&N.

Re: Oil Filters
On pressure tests, however, M1's have been noted to sometimes cause a fairly large drop in pressure due to the restrictiveness of the filter. K&N's have been tested w/ almost no drop in pressure.
Also, K&N does use a synthetic media as well.
It's probably fine either way, but given the small size of the filter, and the fact I wanted to run extended drain intervals, I chose to go with the K&N 1006 to avoid any potential pressure problems, particularly on extended drain intervals.
I've used M1's in other cars though with good results - so like I said, it's probably okay either way. Purolate Pure One are also great filters too - very high filtering percentage, about the best out there, but same thing, sometimes cause a drop in pressure as well.

K&N does not use a synthetic filter element, unless they have just started VERY recently. It is a resin-impregnated paper element. Do you have a link that says it is synthetic, because if so, that is news to me. The tests I have all seen have confirmed that it is paper.

Re: Oil Filters
The Nissan filters are perfectly fine, and a safe choice if you're unsure about which aftermarket filter to go with. After all, it's the one Infiniti recommends for the car.
Aftermarket filter sizes were discussed here: My first oil change! -- along with part numbers for different brand replacement filters, OEM size and the larger size.
Can any confirm whether the K&N part number for the larger filter size is 1006 or 1010? Then I can update that list and put a copy of it in the FAQ section.
